The Life Skills Camp was designed by the Centre for Appropriate Technology Limited (CAT Ltd) and subsidised by the NT Department of Business, and the Indigenous Land Corporation. The Life Skills Camp has been designed to support residency for remote and regional students undertaking training and development opportunities in Central Australia but is not limited to, visitors wishing to host a corporate event over a number of days and desire a convenient location. The Centre for Appropriate Technology Company Group comprises the Centre for Appropriate Technology Ltd (CAT Ltd), an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) owned not-for-profit business and Ekistica (Pty Ltd), its wholly owned commercial subsidiary. Arriving on site and retrieving your key On arrival, make your way to the Centre for Appropriate Technology Reception. One of our friendly CAT Ltd Staff will provide you with a key to your room, and a key to the front gate. And then a short site induction and safety briefing will be conducted with you. The Life Skills Camp is located on a 38 hectare site surrounded by native plants and wildlife, and is just a ten minute drive from the Alice Springs CBD, situated near the Desert Knowledge Precinct. Please be aware; Snake Caution in the Northern Territory First Aid if in doubt, all snake bites should be treated as venomous. A bystander should call for medical advice, do not wash the wound site, keep the victim as still as possible and apply pressure to the wound. A pressure bandage should be applied firmly to the entire limb or wound area, but not so tight that it stops blood flow. The casualty should be monitored until help arrives. There are two access points to get to the Life Skills Camp. One is through the 90 Heath Road, Connellan entrance, and the other is through the main gates to the Desert Knowledge Precinct, and by following the road signs. The Life Skills Camp has parking for up to six vehicles and additional overflow parking available in the car parks surrounding the nearby CAT Ltd Heath Road building. There are a total of 12 rooms with attached shower room facilities, each room is single occupancy therefore allowing for a maximum of 12 guests at any one time. There are also communal living areas including a kitchen and laundry. All indoor spaces are strictly non-smoking. You can smoke outside the Life Skills Camp buildings but we ask you to consider non-smokers so that they are not affected by your cigarette smoke. Please ensure all cigarette butts are put in the sand buckets provided. The Life Skills Camp is an alcohol free area. We ask that no alcohol is to be brought onto or consumed on the premises. 4
Residential accommodation, en-suite rooms surrounded by fruit trees and native plants and wildlife. We offer affordable accommodation for your needs and budget. 12 single rooms available. The rates are $97.00 per person per night (including gst). A minimum deposit of 50% of the full amount of the reservation is required prior to arrival. A cancelation fee of $15.00 is charged per reservation. A change fee of $15.00 is charged per reservation. Two of our rooms that are equipped with disability facilities, these are rooms 2 & 11. If you need one of these rooms, let us know on arrival. Each room is furnished with a single bed, a locker for clothes, a bedside table and a table & chair. There is an en-suite shower room in each room with a shower, wash basin and toilet. Bedding, a towel and soap is supplied in each room. The rooms are set around 2 courtyards, each has a drinking water fountain and outdoor seating for 6 people to sit down, relax and enjoy the surroundings. Due to fire safety regulations, one person per room is obligatory. 5
The kitchen and dining area is separate from the rooms and is set up for self-catering during your visit. This room is also divided into a meeting room, seating up to 14 people. The kitchen has a gas cooker, fridges, freezer, dishwasher and microwave as well as smaller kitchen equipment to make your stay comfortable. There will be teabags, coffee, sugar and milk provided upon entry, more can be provided upon request. There is dining space for 12 people and the dining area can also be used to relax and watch TV or use for a meeting room. There is additional seating for 12 people under a covered outdoor area which also has a barbeque and a dartboard. There are instructions for all equipment. If you are not sure on how to use something please contact CAT Ltd facilities for instruction during office hours. There is a separate laundry room equipped with 2 washing machines and a laundry bench for our guests to use. The laundry room has an exit to an outdoor drying area which has clothes lines available to dry your laundry. There is also an iron and ironing board available for use. Laundry detergent is kept in the laundry room. 6
Monday to Friday - 8:00AM to 5:00PM Saturday to Sunday - Closed Each guest will be issued with their own key which will access their room, the communal living areas and a food locker in the kitchen. This key is the responsibility of the guest during their stay. If the key is lost or accidentally locked in the room, please contact Simon Webb, Facilities Coordinator, 08 89596166 or 0437 932 669 or go to the CAT Ltd Reception during office hours for a replacement key. All keys are to be returned before you leave on the final day of your visit. There may be an additional charge of $100 each for keys that are not returned. Talice Security Services undertake patrols of the CAT Ltd site twice a night. Their role is to ensure that the premises are secure, not to attend to any incidents. 7

An emergency can be classed as: Any situation where life or injury is threatened Motor vehicle accident where people are injured Air, rail or water accident Any event which might cause danger to people or property Explosion or bomb incident/ threat A disturbance or breach of the peace, for example a domestic violence incident or anti-social behavior Any suspected offence in progress, being witnessed or just committed What happens when I call 000? 1. Your call is first answered by Telstra, who will ask Emergency. a. Which service do you require fire, police or ambulance? 2. Respond with the service/location you need (if you are using a mobile telephone you will be asked for the city and state you are in) 3. Your call will then be connected to the emergency service you need. Normally CAT Ltd cleaners will only clean the Life Skills Camp on exit unless otherwise arranged prior to your visit. It is a good idea to consider whether you require a weekly clean if you are staying for more than one week. There is a supply of cleaning equipment and products available in the communal living areas for you to use during your visit if you need to clean either the communal living areas or the rooms. If you require CAT Ltd cleaners to do additional cleaning either in the communal areas or the rooms, then please contact the Simon Webb, Facilities Coordinator on 08 8959 6166 or 0437 932 669during work hours or ask for them at the CAT Ltd Reception. Wi-Fi is available at the Life Skills Camp for each group/individual reservation. To arrange for wi-fi for your group, please ensure you tick this on the booking form. Alternatively you can contact Sheree Butters; CAT Reception on 08 8959 6100. Please note that there will be a wait for set-up if wi-fi is not initially ticked on the booking form. The Irrarnte café is in the middle of the Desert Peoples Centre and is open from 8am to 3:30pm on weekdays. You can buy a range of drinks and snacks as well as breakfast afnd lunch from the café.
