Trivia Answers The local library was housed in the Monumental Building until the new facility was completed in 1958. The Sidney Municipal Airport was started as a privately owned airstrip in 1956 and was deeded to the City of Sidney by a group of local citizens in 1963. The Great Flood of 1913 washed out significant portions of the Miami-Erie Canal and effectively ended its use. This cherub is found in the mural painted on the ceiling of the Sidney Municipal Court Room in the Monumental Building. In 1896, the first SHS football game was played at the present day Orbison Park. Jane Irwin, was the first interment on Sept. 27,1867 Tawawa Park was established May 24, 1948 under the guidance of the Tawawa Civic Park Trustees. The jail facility was closed in 1994 when a new building was completed on Gearhart Road The Sidney-Shelby County YMCA was located in the Monarch Community Center until 1974. The Fire of 1914 destroyed the center buildings in the northern block of the downtown square. Completed in 1924, construction of the Big Four Bridge was an engineering marvel of its time. The monument is found in Schultz s Battery Park which is at the confluence of Ohio and Main Avenues near the Big Four Bridge. You ll find Sgt. Baker s twin located in the town square of Mansfield, Ohio. False. The current courthouse is the third building constructed as a county courthouse. In 2013, the Sidney Police Department received 10,703 9-1-1 calls. Sidney was one of the first small cities to have a waterworks which was approved by voters in 1872. Athens, Urbana, Lima, and Bellefontaine. Only the Sidney location remains in operation. Brookside Park was once used by the National Guard Armory, and the concrete bunker for firing range is still intact on the property.
