Well, we might as well get the bad news out first: Although we have had a great time this year as your Chapter Directors, as we announced during the November Social, we are stepping down effective December 31, due to health reasons. Unfortunately, no one has contacted us offering to be the Chapter Director; and, several members we personally have asked, also declined. We also were trying to put together a TEAM of three people to serve as Co-Chapter Directors, but this effort was unsuccessful. It appears, because no one is willing to lead, Chapter I will close January 1, 2018. Now, for the good news! Thank you to Gene Littleton for arranging our first Toy Collection at the Wal-Mart in Cape. Even with rescheduling from November 18 (due to weather), the November 28 date made for a very successful collection. I am not sure if it was the timing (as this was Giving Tuesday ), the perfect weather with temps in the 70 s, or the cheery bunch of GoldWingers, but shoppers were very generous with gifts of toys (44 during the toy drive) and $185.15 in cash. In addition, Chapter participants donated 34 toys throughout the year. All will be donated to the Marine s Toys-for-Tots campaign. On December 9th, we will gather at the Fruitland Fire Station at 10 AM to fill Christmas Baskets for delivery. There are still a few items that haven t been signed up for; if you would like to contribute, give me a call and I can let you know what has not yet been spoken for on the list. We will regroup that afternoon at 5 PM for our Chapter Christmas Party. We will have a catered Christmas dinner with turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, etc. We are asking Chapter participants to provide desserts. In addition to a great meal, we will have several activities during our party... Dirty Santa - those interested in participating are asked to bring a gift valued at $15 men bring men s gift / women bring women s gifts Awarding of the coveted High Mileage Certificates to the man and woman in the Chapter who have ridden the most miles. Please be sure to keep an eye on Facebook for George White s notice for the last day to turn in your mileage. Participation 50/50 Give Away each time you participated by donating a dollar during a Chapter activity - Ride-to-Eat, ride, etc. - half of the money was given at the event and the other half was deposited in the bank and will be given away at the Christmas Party. If you have any 50/50 monies you collected, please be sure George White gets it at the December Social so that it can be included in the give-away. On December 14th, we will meet at Sandy s Place at the Airport at 6 PM for a Ride-to-Eat. Sandy has generously donated a $20 gift certificate that those present can draw for that night. If you haven t participated in the Chapter s 5th Friday Bingo at the Cape Senior Center, December 29th is your chance. Bingo begins at 12:30. Arrive a little before noon for a tasty and affordable lunch. If you have any outstanding receipts for Chapter expenses, please be sure to bring them to the December Social and turn them in to George White for reimbursement. In order for our annual financials to be accurate, all expenses must be turned in by the Social, and we are asking that all outstanding checks be cashed by December 20. As always, please check your e-mail or Facebook on Sunday evenings for the Weekly Informer for reminders, updates and revisions to Chapter events. It s not the destination, it s the journey, Bruce and Jan Watkins Chapter I Directors

It s Beginning To Look A Lot Like MAP Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Where did the time go?!?! Let s see Culver s, 5th Friday BINGOs, Memorial Day Coffee Break, Ride for Kids, Bollinger Bonfire, River Ridge Ladies Outing, Cape County Christmas Display, Chapter I Fun Run, Chapter Z Fall Fest, So. Illinois Ride-In - to name a few things! We can t forget the dinner rides and chapter rides, too. Then, GIVING TUESDAY found twelve participants plus one guest participant, Rudolph, making the Walmart entrance merry and bright, as we collected toys for girls and boys. Gene Littleton spearheaded this cause during the year on the chapter level. Through the powers that be, she capped it off with the collection of toys and donations from shoppers on Giving Tuesday. How apropos! Yes, once again a civic opportunity gave us the perfect venue to not only help those in the community, but make the public aware that we are out there by posting our motorcycle awareness sign, our chapter banner. We were also able to let them know who we were and why we were there. It s very easy to slip in a comment here and there to Be aware. We are out there. AND make a difference in everyone s lives at the same time, because. Ultimately, it s your responsibility to ARRIVE ALIVE. Marlene Cloude, Chapter I M.A.P. Director Marlene Cloude MAP Director The 5th Annual(?) Christmas Cookie/Candy Exchange... will take place during our Chapter I Christmas Party that is scheduled to take place on December 9, 2017. In past years, we filled 3 Treat Bags for each participant to take home with them full of scrumptious, holiday favorites. We hope to have more of you take part this year! We ve also changed it up a bit so that if candy is your forte, you can make that instead! It s never too early to start thinking about your family favorite Christmas cookie/candy recipe to bake/make and share with others. Please text, FB message, or email Marlene Cloude to let me know if you will participate this year so that I have a treat bag for each participant to take home their goodies! If you do participate, the only requirement is that you bake and bring at least two cookies to trade with each of the other participants. Place two cookies in clear, plastic baggies or saran type wrap and have a baggie for each participant to take home. We will have Treat Bags for each participant to take home the cookies they receive in exchange for the ones they brought. Participation is open to guys and gals. One final request is that you provide the recipe for your culinary choice to me so that I can share them with others. - Marlene Cloude

I found this article on 13WHOtv.com: DES MOINES, Iowa A helmet and a protective jacket are the only things that Perry resident Tony Tice says saved his life. Tice was riding his motorcycle home from work on Monday when he hit a deer that jumped onto the road. He s now recovering from his injuries in the hospital. The impact sent him tumbling 70 feet down the gravel road. I kinda started taking inventory of what did and didn t function, and I tried to roll to get out of the road and it just I couldn t do it, so I kinda shuffled over to the edge of the road as best I could said Tice. With a punctured lung and four broken ribs, Tice was in extreme pain and had trouble breathing. He was able to call 911 from his cell phone, and was found by his co-worker Jay who was traveling the same way. Ambulances arrived on scene, and Tice was airlifted to Mercy. Tice says he owes his life to his protective gear. It did its job. Period. The padding in it was phenomenal, I mean I don t have any bruises or just two scratches said Tice. Now recovering, and with his wife by his side, Tice says this Thanksgiving he has a lot to be thankful for. I m seriously thankful, I mean, from my wife, to Jay, to my friend from high school who was the second person there, to the ambulance crews and the helicopter crew. There was no downside to it, period. Everything went like clockwork said Tice. Tice hopes that other motorcycle riders will take his story to heart and wear their helmets every time they ride. You think about riding down a paved road without a helmet on, that s just a cheese grater waiting to happen. AGAT, all gear all time he said. Tice says he was only doing about 40 miles per hour when he struck the deer. When I read this article, I was reminded of some friends of mine in IA-O. A number of years ago, they were involved in a double motorcycle accident while riding on I-80 near Iowa City, IA. They were thrown off their Wing and went sliding down the highway. They were both wearing full protective gear. When they stopped sliding, got their wits together, and were checked out by medical personal, it was discovered that although their motorcycle gear was ruined, they had just a few scratches and bruises. Although it is always your choice as to what you wear when you ride, please give it some serious consideration. People ask me how can you stand it to wear all that gear when it s hot? My answer is that a little discomfort because of the heat is a lot better than the discomfort I would feel if I were to go down on pavement bare headed & wearing a tee shirt. I know some of you put your bikes away during the cold weather, but for those of you that still ride in the cold when the weather & pavement conditions permit, be careful & be safe. Most drivers don t really expect to see motorcycles in the winter. Kick back and relax until spring Rider Educator Norm Lake Norm Lake Rider Educator

Makin' Tracks Riders enjoyed getting together to ride, play & eat!! Just another privilege to being a member of GWRRA! Thank you to everyone for your participation! Twenty eight ladies from Chapter I and Chapter IL-Q came together for another enjoyable time at the River Ridge Winery and the Yule Log Cabin for their traditional lunch outing to kick start the Christmas season.
