Marine Corps League Department of South Carolina Department Convention Committee 12 March 2016 Commandants of SC Marine Corps League Detachments On behalf of the Marines of the Lewis G. Watkins (#1131) and Upstate Marines (#1106) detachments, welcome to the Upstate and to the 2016 Annual Department Convention. As you know, the Convention will be held at the Anderson Holiday Inn (3509 Clemson Boulevard, Anderson, SC 29621) and Tucker s Restaurant from June 2 to June 5. Please take this opportunity to reconnect with Marines across the state, to learn from other detachments, to hear about our banquet speaker s experiences as a Vietnam POW and to explore the Upstate. Activities are planned in Anderson, Pickens and Oconee counties. Shopping, restaurants, museums, and historic homes are located near the Holiday Inn in Anderson. Beautiful Lake Hartwell, historic Pendleton and Clemson University are only a short drive away. Thursday begins with registration and a free welcome BBQ at Carson s Steak Warehouse (next to the Holiday Inn). The hospitality room at the Holiday Inn includes free drinks and food and will be open throughout the meeting. Friday evening options include (1) beach music, food and fellowship at Carson s Steak Warehouse, (2) a tour of Clemson University s Football stadium including Howard s Rock and Memorial Gardens and (3) a visit to the Patriots Hall Military Museum and dinner in Walhalla. Please encourage your fellow Marines to register early so that we do not have to cancel any of these options. The convention pre-registration form and ad purchase information are attached. Please forward to the members of your Detachment and encourage them to preregister as soon as possible. Both the hotel reservation deadline and the preregistration deadline are May 2, 2016. Please send in your Detachment s $100.00 donation support of the convention and the $100 for your journal ad as soon as possible. Ads must be submitted by May 2 to meet printer deadlines. Commandant Tharp has approved the following ad sales incentives policy: Any amount over the $200 for a donation and an ad will be split 50:50 between the hosting detachments and the selling detachment after printing costs are deducted. If the amount is $100, the printing cost (for example, $20.00) will be subtracted, the detachment will be refunded 50% ($40.00) and the hosting detachments will keep 50% ($40.00). If you have any questions, please e-mail me at sfbirdwatcher@gmail.com or call me at 864-643- 6376. I look forward to seeing you in Anderson in June. Semper Fi, Susan Barefoot, Committee Chair
