In Search of River Crossings! Tanzania & Kenya September 2017 Start with the amazing Ngorongoro Crater and the forested habitat of Lake Manyara. Next, enjoy the large herds of elephant at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro and then the flamingos at Lake Nakuru then top it all off with 3 nights in the Maasai Mara National Reserve where you will experience the amazing wildebeest migration river crossings! This is classic Africa with luxurious accommodation, interesting cultures, incredible landscapes & abundant wildlife! September 21 to 23, 2017 In Transit: Fly from North America to Kilimanjaro Tanzania. Option to stopover in London or Amsterdam! We would be happy to book your flights for you! September 23 - Kia Lodge, Mt. Kilimanjaro Tanzania (1 night): Arrive Kilimanjaro, TZ where Tour Leader Carol Petersen will be anxiously waiting for you and transfer your to Kia Lodge for a well deserved rest! Get ready for tomorrow! September 24 - Ngorongoro Serena Lodge http://www.serenahotels.com/default-en.html (2 nights): Your safari begins! After breakfast, our guides will pick you up and depart in your Land Cruiser west to the world famous Ngorongoro Crater - one of the most unique wildlife viewing spectacles in Africa. Your accommodation is perched on the crater rim with sweeping views of the crater below. Arrive in time for lunch! After lunch, you re off to visit a Maasai Village. Ask many questions and take many pictures of these colorful & gentle people, they are eager to share their culture. September 25: An early departure as you head down in the crater itself. The crater has a great diversity of ecosystems including a savanna and forest area. There is a constant source of water and food for the antelope and zebra so there is no need to migrate. This is also a prolific region to see prides of lion as well. Often there will be a breeding pair and you can watch the interactions between the handsome black-maned males and golden tawny females. If you are very lucky you will be privileged to see Black Rhino. Lunch will be picnic style while watching hippos spouting and snorting. Once back at the lodge, watch another incredible sunset from your lodge above the crater, then a delicious dinner and off to bed to get ready for the next day s adventure.

September 26 - Lake Manyara Serena Lodge, Tanzania (1 night): Depart Ngorongoro for Lake Manyara National Park with a picnic lunch. The afternoon you head down into the valley for a close up look at Lake Manyara National Park. This park has a very high elephant population and you may even get to see them having their daily play in Lake Manyara. This is also a great park to see large numbers of giraffe, buffalo, and primates too, in fact, you should have a good sighting of Sykes Monkeys as well as Baboon and Vervet Monkeys. Return to the lodge for dinner & stargazing! Optional Night Game Drive to see nocturnal species! Approx. 3hrs $125USD per person September 27 Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge, Amboseli N.P, Kenya - www.serenahotels.com (2 nights): Say goodbye to Tanzania as you drive to Arusha and then on to the Kenya Border Crossing Namanga. After a picnic lunch at the border travel east with Mt. Kilimanjaro looming to the south looking for the illusive Gerenuk Antelope and many many elephants! Arrive at your beautiful lodge in time for dinner. September 28: The day consists of an early morning and late afternoon game drive exploring Amboseli National Park. Although this is one of the smallest parks in Kenya it has a high population of elephants. Some really great lion sightings have been made here too! September 29 The Stanley Hotel, Nairobi (2 nights): After breakfast, start north to Nairobi and along the way you will stop at the AIC Kajiado Girls School to spend some time with some special students. Kajiado School has over 700 students but there are 120 girls that have been rescued from forced marriage or orphaned that will steal your heart! We will have time to visit with the girls before carrying on to Nairobi (lunch along the way) to the beautiful Stanley Hotel on a B&B basis for 1 night. September 30: Today we have a fabulous visit to Giraffe center and then a private visit to Daphne Sheldrick s Elephant Orphanage a very special place! Lunch will be at the Karen Blixen Coffee Garden (own account) B

October 1 Lake Elementaita Serena Camp (2 nights): A new ecosystem! Drive to Lake Naivasha with its commanding setting at the foot of the Rift Valley Escarpment. Lake Naivasha is also an important horticultural area of Kenya. A pristine paradise, Soysambu Conservancy spreads from the flamingo-fringed shores of Lake Elementaita, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, across golden savannah plains, through deep-green forests, and into mysterious grey volcanic hills. An undiscovered ecological haven, the lake s lava islands provide East Africa s only breeding grounds for the Great White Pelican, while its blue-green alkaline waters attract vast flocks of coral pink flamingos. An undiscovered wilderness, only recently opened to the public, the conservancy provides sanctuary for over 15,000 creatures, including large herds of endangered Rothschild giraffes. Intimate and exclusive, sheltered by acacia groves and enjoying long views down the flamingo-fringed reaches of the lake, Lake Elementaita Serena Camp has been styled to echo the richness of Soysambu s past, while guaranteeing an excellence of cuisine, décor and tailored safari experiences that are rarely found in a tented camp. Lunch will be at your Camp followed by an afternoon game drive. Dinner & overnight. October 2: A full day game drive at Lake Manyara with lunch at Sarova Lion Hill Lodge. Time to check out the White Rhino Rothschild s Giraffe and maybe even African Painted Dogs! Dinner and overnight at the lodge. October 3 - Mara Serena Lodge, Maasai Mara Reserve (3 nights) http://www.serenahotels.com/default-en.html : Now to the migration in the Maasai Mara! It is perhaps the only region left in Kenya where the visitor may see animals in the same superabundance as existed a century ago. The migration will be in full swing so we will spend time watching this amazing spectacle! October 4 & 5: The next 2 days you will game drive looking for all the wildlife you have longed to see elephant, giraffe, zebra, buffalo and of course the cats lion, cheetah and the elusive leopard. The bird life is phenomenal and there are lots of opportunities to give your binoculars a good work out! Optional Hot Air Balloon Safari approximately $500 USD Per Person. Book now as space is limited! October 6: A sad farewell to the Mara as you fly back to Nairobi, have lunch and a hotel room to freshen up and then begin your journey home full of wonderful memories of Africa. OR extend your safari with a visit to see the Mountain Gorillas in Rwanda, Beach time in Mombasa or Zanzibar or how about joining Carol for a River Cruise with AMA Waterways on the Rhine River? Enjoy the fall colors!
