The Lodge Marataba Trails Lodge is perched on the side of the mountain, with 180 degree views into Waterfall Valley. It is utterly remote, in a wilderness world of its own for never more than 8 guests at a time.

It is home to an impressive variety of wildlife, with all the large game species from elephant and rhino to the big cats, as well as an amazing variety of birds including the largest colony of endangered Cape vultures in the world.

The Lodge
The Lodge No matter the season, there is always a fire burning at Marataba Trails Lodge after sunset. It s a really special time of day where our guests gather and share stories; where new friendships are forged and older relationships cemented. The night is inky dark, clear and very very quiet; but for the sound of animals all around you. You may hear an elephant trumpeting, its stomach rumbling in the distance. You may hear the roar of a lion or the bark of a baboon. You may hear the manic giggle of a hyena. Or you may just hear the sound of your own breathing as the crisp evening air rejuvenates your spirit.
AT YOUR LEISURE Morning and afternoon trails depart from the Lodge each day, with the option of enjoying a full-day hike and picnic in winter. A number of hikes are available including Riverine, Gorge, Mountain and Interest Trails. The level of difficulty is dependent on the disposition of walkers. You also have the option of a traditional vehicle safari on the Big Five Reserve, or a Miss Mara boat safari in the afternoon. Yolandi

Just like Nick. Through the 6 month programme on offer, aspirant Safari Guides are able to obtain their FGASA Level 1 accreditation, along with a host of other required disciplines. The 12 month programme is unique in that it offers a hands-on practical application at one of MORE s 5-star lodges in South Africa
