It is clear that with the growth in number of inner city dwellers there is also a growing need for such centres. As a club located within the CBD we should make an effort to see these centres for ourselves. Perhaps there is an opportunity for us to contribute in some way. I will follow up with Sophie to see if we can organize a visit to discover more about needs. Sizzling Sausages! Public awareness of Prostate Cancer is rising. However the level of detection and intervention through action on the part of men at risk could be a lot higher. Deaths in Australia attributed to Prostate Cancer are presently running at 3,300 deaths per annum which is approximately the same level as Breast Cancer. 20,000 new cases of Prostate Cancer are detected each year in Australia. At least three of our members have been treated for this disease. ED KING, DG 2010/11 AND WIFE SHEENA National Pharmacies, SAFM and Channel 7 have joined together to raise awareness and much needed funds for cancer research through the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia. At our meeting this week the club will be selling blue ribbon badges ($3.00 each) and on Wednesday the 13 th. of April our meeting will take the form of a Fundraiser BBQ. Weather permitting this will be in front of the Public School s Club otherwise indoors as usual. All proceeds from Badge sales and BBQ will go to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia. We need your Help! Club Membership and Pride of Workmanship Night - May 18 th. Scott and Jim are planning this important event and need your help to attract potential members and also likely candidates for a Pride of Workmanship Award. Time is short- please make approaches in your neighbourhood and workplace for prospects and pass on details to either Jim or Scott. Yours in Rotary, President Bob.
