ECONOMIC GROWTH SPURS LONG-TERM INVESTMENT Establishing the Medical Marijuana Industry Pennsylvania s medical marijuana program went into effect in 2016. It is already benefitting our region. Not only have patients been helped, but we have seen a burst in economic activity related to the law. PurePenn moved quickly to establish a new 21,000-foot production facility in downtown McKeesport. On the heels of that opening, a new dispensary The Healing Center opening in Monroeville. The new facilities will add hundreds of new workers to our community and enable our region to become a center for businesses serving the industry. CP Industries CP Industries was awarded a $140,000 grant to support the design and testing of new pressure vessels. CP Industries, with a manufacturing facility in McKeesport, markets pressure vessels to national and international markets. PurePenn facility in McKeesport. American Textile The City of Duquesne s American Textile, a nationallyrecognized manufacturer of pillows, received a $1.5 million state grant to improve the site and open new space for expansion. TRANSPORTATION MOVES THE ECONOMY Mon-Fayette Expressway Gets Green Light Brewster Leads Way A state-of-the-art transportation network is necessary for rebuilding the Mon Valley. The approval of the next phase of the Mon-Fayette Expressway by the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission was critical. The go-ahead puts into motion the final pieces of the $2.2 billion roadway that will serve our region for years to come. SEN. BREWSTER FOUGHT TO SAVE ROUTES 61A North Braddock 61B Braddock Swissvale McKeesport Transportation Center Road Work in Brentwood, Vandergrift, Baldwin Nearly $1 million in new funding was approved to do work on key transportation projects in Allegheny and Westmoreland Counties. A grant for $600,000 was approved to rehabilitate and modernize the transportation center in McKeesport. Funds were also released for a streetscape project in Brentwood, road work in Vandergrift and a new trail connector in Baldwin. Photo provided by Tube City Almanac Port Authority Bus Routes Retained Port Authority bus service via the 61A, 61B and 61C routes, once threatened, has been retained. Ensuring fast and efficient mass transportation is one of the reasons the General Assembly passed Act 89. The funding provided by this law is a critical component of the decision to retain the service to the region. Sen. Brewster is a member of the Port Authority Board. Funds For Traffic Light Upgrades in Allegheny Township 61C McKeesport Homestead 61D Murray Traffic light upgrades of more than $122,000 were approved for signals and warning devices in Allegheny Township. The funding was provided through PennDot s Automated Red-Light Enforcement program.

REBUILDING COMMUNITIES, AIDING SCHOOLS, HELPING VETERANS AND EMERGENCY SERVICES County Funds Support Local Municipalities Seventeen municipalities were awarded $1.8 million through the Allegheny County Tourism and Infrastructure Fund. The funds will be used to pay for library and municipal improvements, street reconstruction, sewer system upgrades and other infrastructure projects. Safe Schools Boosted More than $380,000 in Safe Schools grants were awarded to 11 school districts in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties. The funding was approved for school police/resource officers in McKeesport, South Allegheny, Baldwin-Whitehall, Plum, Elizabeth- Forward, Kiski Area and West Jefferson Hills. West Mifflin received a $15,000 Safe Schools Grant. Gateway and Penn-Trafford were awarded Safe Schools Equipment Grants. AROUND THE 45 TH SENATORIAL DISTRICT Rep. Bill Kortz and Sen. Brewster celebrate Port Vue Borough s 125th Anniversary. Sen. Brewster attends Anheuser- Busch Check Presentation to Vandergrift Police Department. State and county officials join Sen. Brewster in East McKeesport for their Open Streets Day and Spray Park/Ice Rink Grand Opening. Sen. Brewster proudly joined McKeesport s Swin Cash Olympic Gold Medalist, WNBA & NCAA Champion at the Western Chapter of the PA Sports Hall of Fame Ceremony. Sen. Brewster, local veterans and community leaders remember Pearl Harbor at a program at the Palisades in McKeesport. Sen. Brewster presents certificates to participants of this year s PROJECT H.E.A.R.T. (HIV/AIDS Education and Research Training) Program. The program is through the Human Services Center in Turtle Creek. Construction has begun on the new senior retirement residence in Glassport. Expected completion of this 55 one and two bedroom development is planned for this year. Sen. Brewster attends the ribbon cutting with local officials after completion of a new playground in North Braddock.

RECREATION, WATER QUALITY GRANTS IMPROVE QUALITY OF LIFE Recreation Initiatives Fuel Tourism Grants of more than $275,000 to enhance recreation in various areas of the region were approved. Dead Man s Hollow trail system in Lincoln Borough plus funds for comprehensive recreation and open space plans in Duquesne and West Mifflin and dollars to help rehabilitate the Brentwood Pool were approved. Sen. Brewster and McKeesport Mayor Mike Cherepko give Westmoreland County Commissioner Ted Kopas a tour of the hostel in McKeesport on the Great Allegheny Passage. Sen. Brewster examines playground improvements in Dravosburg made possible by a Community Infrastructure and Tourism Fund (CITF) grant. State Dollars Approved for Recreation, Public Safety, Flood Control The Commonwealth Financing Authority approved more than $1.2 million for a variety of recreation, flood control and public safety improvements for various communities in the region. Almost $280,000 was approved for flood control along Dirty Camp Run in Pitcairn. Plus, over $1 million was granted for work on streetscape improvements in East McKeesport ($795,690) and Crestas Park in North Versailles ($211,241). The Monroeville Police Department received a $100,000 grant for improvement of communication equipment. These projects include a variety of work to rehabilitate, renovate, refurbish or repair sewer systems.
