Fr quicker prcessing, we recmmend faxing the cmpleted I-9 t ur ffice at 607-255-5022. Were yu aware that at least ne third f all I-9 s submitted t ur ffice are returned fr crrectin? As such, we strngly recmmend that yu review the I-9 immediately after cmpletin t avid cmmn mistakes, befre submitting it t ur ffice fr review/prcessing. What t lk fr: In Sectin 1 Did the student.. Enter their last name, first name, and middle initial (if they have a middle name); Enter any ther names used r N/A if they had n ther legal names; Enter a cmplete address (street number and name, apartment number if applicable, city r twn, state, and zip cde) a P.O. Bx is nt an acceptable address; Enter their cmplete date f birth - mm/dd/yyyy; Scial Security Number, email address, and telephne number are nt required s if thse fields have been left blank, that is acceptable; Check ne f the fur bxes attesting t their status; If the bx fr A nncitizen natinal was selected, yu wuld want t cnfirm with the student if they in fact are a nncitizen natinal (nncitizen natinals f the United States are persns brn in American Sama, certain frmer citizens f the frmer Trust Territry f the Pacific Islands, and certain children f nncitizen natinals brn abrad), r if they are here instead n a visa. If any f Sectin 1 was cmpleted by a preparer r translatr, that individual must certify that he r she assisted the student by cmpleting the Preparer and/r Translatr Certificatin Blck. If multiple preparers and/r translatrs were required, subsequent preparers and/r translatrs must cmplete the Preparer/Translatr Certificatin f a secnd Frm I-9 and attach that page t the riginally cmpleted Frm I-9. In Sectin 2: Did yu.. Enter the students last name, first name and middle initial (if ne was prvided in Sectin 1); Nte acceptable dcumentatin under List A, r List B and List C; Please be sure that yu are nting the acceptable dcumentatin under the crrect list sectin! When a submitted I-9 is incmplete, r cmpleted incrrectly, ur ffice will return the frm (via interffice mail) t the individual wh signed in Sectin 2 as the Emplyer r Authrized Representative f the emplying department, fr crrectin. The incmplete r incrrect area(s) f the I-9 will be identified, and must be crrected and resubmitted t ur ffice fr further review befre it will be entered int the PepleSft system. I-94 Infrmatin Reminder and Update: U.S. Custms and Brder Prtectin (CBP) published an interim final rule in the Federal Register t autmate Frm I-94, Arrival/Departure Recrd. Frm I-94 prvides nnimmigrants evidence that they have been lawfully admitted t the United States. The interim final rule, effective n April 26, 2013, streamlines the admissins prcess fr nnimmigrants arriving t the United States. Affected nnimmigrants traveling t the United States by air r sea will n lnger need t fill ut a paper Frm I- 94. Hwever, individuals wh g thrugh secndary inspectin, such as asylees, refugees, and parlees, will be prvided a paper cpy f Frm I-94 by a CBP fficer. What des this mean with regard t when we are cmpleting I-9 s fr students? If a student selects that they are an alien authrized t wrk in Sectin 1 f their I-9, they have t prvide their Alien Registratin Number/USCIS Number OR Frm I-94 Admissins Number and the wrk until date in the apprpriate area in Sectin 1. If that student then prvides a freign passprt as their prf f identity and emplyment authrizatin, the emplying department must additinally dcument the I-94 and I-20 infrmatin/expiratin dates in Sectin 2 under List A. If the student n lnger has the paper cpy f the frm I-94 (example belw is what yu may be used t seeing stapled within the students freign passprt): the student wuld have t g nt the U.S. Custms and Brder Prtectin site (using Internet Explrer) t find their I-94 admissin number and infrmatin (if the student is having truble accessing their I-94 admissin number and infrmatin nline, then they can call 1-888-464-4218 (Mnday Friday, 8:30am
5:00pm EST) fr assistance). The student wuld need t dwnlad the I-94 infrmatin and shw that t the emplying department in part f cmpletin f their I-9. The image belw is an example f the I- 94 admissin number and infrmatin as it is viewable nline thrugh the U.S. Custms and Brder Prtectin site (please nte that fr students n an F1 visa, the Admit Unit Date may shw as D/S which means duratin f study). The Admit Until Date infrmatin is what is used as the expiratin date fr the I-94 when cmpleting the I-9. Attached is an example f hw the I-94 infrmatin is t be included by the student in Sectin 1, and by the emplying department in Sectin 2. A Reminder f wh cmpletes the I-9? All students (unless they are here n a visa ther than F1) are t cmplete the I-9 with the emplying department. If the student is here n a visa ther than F1, then the student wuld need t cnfirm their emplyment eligibility and cmplete the I-9 frm thrugh the Internatinal Students and Schlars Office.
