Paris is unique in that it is a major global city -- home to more than 10 million people in the greater region -- yet it manages to synthesize the rhythms of village life with those of a cosmopolitan world capital. Although the city is a center of European commerce, many shops are closed on Sundays, leaving time for lazy brunches or shopping excursions at a local market. Paris is the capital of fashion, art, and peoplewatching; a city where Chanel-clad ladies walk poodles along grand boulevards; a place where the waiters might be rude but the food is délicieux. Paris is all of that and more. Depart on a Guided Tour of Paris. See the Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Place de la Concorde, Place Vendome and the Champs Elysees. At the conclusion of the tour, transfer and check in to the: Mercure Paris Porte de Versailles Expo 36 38 rue du moulin 92170 Vanves, France Dinner as a group and this evening is free.
DAY SEVEN: Wednesday, July 12, 2017 PARIS (B,D) Masterclass This morning enjoy a visit to the world famous Louvre Museum which is home to many historic and widely known art works including the Mona Lisa, one of Leonardo Da Vinci s masterworks. Afternoon Lunch on your own in the area. After lunch, enjoy a Seine river cruise which will take you past some of the city s major sights. This afternoon, enjoy a masterclass with Philippe Ferro, Music Director of the l'orchestre d'harmonie de la Région Centre (TBC). Dinner as a group in Paris. DAY EIGHT: Thursday, July 13, 2017 PARIS (B,D) Following breakfast, load the coaches and transfer to nearby Versailles where you will visit the Palace of Versailles. The grandeur of the Château of Versailles is hard to imagine until you are standing in front of it. Immediately, you start to get an idea of the power (and ego) of the man who was behind it, King Louis XIV. One of the largest castles in Europe, it is also forever associated with another, less fortunate king, Louis XVI and his wife Queen Marie Antoinette, who were both forced to flee when the French Revolution arrived at their sumptuous doorstep. The palace s extraordinary gardens, designed by the legendary landscape architect André Le Nôtre, are almost worth the visit on their own. Afternoon Return to Paris for lunch on your own. Upon arrival back in to Paris, enjoy a visit of the Cite de La Musique. The museum, with a permanent collection of over 1,000 instruments and artworks, as well as 2 temporary exhibitions each year, promotes music heritage dating from the 17th century to the present day through music from around the world. Later this afternoon continue on to the Montmartre area of Paris and enjoy a visit to the Basilica of the Sacre Coeur which offers spectacular views of Paris. Dinner as a group in Paris.
DAY NINE: Friday, July 14, 2017 PARIS (BASTILLE DAY) (B,D) Performance #3 Following breakfast, enjoy a Guided Tour of Palais Garnier. Flamboyant, extravagant, and baroque, this opulent opera house is a splendid example of Second Empire architectural excess. Mosaics, mirrors, gilt, and marble line these grand spaces, whose painted ceilings dance with fauns, gods, and nymphs. The main event, of course, is the auditorium, which might seem a bit small, considering the size of the building. In fact, it holds not even 2,000 seats. Afternoon Lunch on your own in Paris. Following lunch, return to the hotel to change into performance attire and collect your instruments. Load the coach and transfer to this afternoon s outdoor concert location (TBC). PERFORMANCE at an outdoor concert location in Paris (TBC). Enjoy a Farewell Dinner as a group in Paris to celebrate your Spain and France Performance Tour!
