Club President 2015 16 Max Bird President s Pen Club Meeting 17 th August 2015 President Report A pleasure to welcome along so many partners and visitors tonight, great meeting. Thank you to the kitchen staff for the great meal and good service, I m sure we ll be back. 1. A draft succession plan for the rotary club of Kwinana management team up until the rotary year 2019 has been completed, John Brennan will address the club ASAP at a club forum, but it is also on ClubRunner for all to see and comment on. 2. John Iriks and his crew are making a lot of progress with both markets, and I see the signs are already out for the city markets on Saturday. 3. Bob Cooper will be forming a small committee of 3 to 4 members to finalise the. Constitution Standing orders Visioning Committee to report to the September board meeting on progress, once done a copy to be sent to district, and also to be inserted into Rotary Club of Kwinana ClubRunner pages for all to see 4. Wendy Cooper will also Chair the Rotary Club of Kwinana involvement in District 9465 Conference, and has already made some prior arrangements using the events page in ClubRunner for accommodation. The next Wellard Village Markets will be held on Sunday 13 th September 2015. Coordinator John Iriks is going all out to make the September markets the best yet, John is keen to display signage outside his office to promote Rotary Projects. Genevieve is continuing to promote 4 Way Speech Contest to our local High Schools with interest shown from Gilmore and Kolbe. PP Genevieve Carr Vocational Pres. Max Bird International Lorraine Lucas Youth October is Vocational Month, guest speakers, a vocational visit planned for Monday 26 th October at the Requatic Centre Hydro Pool, dinner after at the Admiral. Safety Coordinator Ian C will ensure traffic signs and road closers are in place by 7am. We will push ahead with planning for the Kwinana Festival, bay s ordered for Chocolate Wheel and Food Van. Festival this year being held on Rhodes Park, Calista because work will be underway at Calista Oval for the Adventure Playground, it s all happening. Polio this week 12 th August 2015 11 th August marked one full year without a case of wild poliovirus confirmed on the African continent for the first time in history. Six weeks are required for all remaining samples in the laboratory to be processed and confirmed negative for poliovirus before there can be more confidence in a polio-free year in Africa. To end polio for good worldwide, there is much still to be done: surveillance needs to be strengthened so that we are sure no virus continues to circulate undetected; every last child needs to be reached with polio vaccines; momentum must be maintained in Africa, and transmission must be stopped in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Last week the emergency committee of the International Health Regulations (IHR) met for the sixth time to assess whether the international spread of polio continues to constitute a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). Their findings and recommendations will be published in the coming week
