2 Airport Overview 1 General Listen to the instructions carefully! If you missed something or did not understand a radio call, don t hesitate to ask! Expect early handoffs, even on the ground. Continue to the clearance limit and contact the next controller on your way. Do not stop just because you are asked to change the frequency! Charts can be found at http://www.vatsim-germany.org/airport/eddm A list of sceneries is available at http://www.vatsim-germany.org/airport/ EDDM 2 Airport Overview 2.1 Parking Now we want to give you an idea of how the real Munich airport operates - at least we will tell you where which airline is parked. Notice that not every airline is mentioned in this list. Of course you are still free to pick a stand anywhere you want, this list (refer to tables 1 and 2) is just for more realism in your simulation. It looks like module C is quite busy, but as those airlines only fly to Munich once a day and at different times, it is actually not as busy as a cursory suggests. Effective: October 2, 2014 Seite 4 of 12

2 Airport Overview 2.1.2 Terminal 2 Terminal 2 and the remote stands at and around Apron 3 are exclusively used by Lufthansa and Star Alliance as well as other Lufthansa partners. Most Lufthansa and Star Alliance widebody aircraft are parked directly at the terminal whereas medium sized planes like the A320 are squeezed in between all the widebodies or are parked at stands 243-256 at the upcoming satelite terminal. Small aircraft like an Embraer or ATR usually use positions 308-313 and 321-332. 2.1.3 Cargo Our cargo terminal is located in the south. The parking positions available are 901-907, all of them can be used by widebody aircraft. To prevent long taxi times all cargo traffic should expect to depart from runway 08R/26L. 2.1.4 General Aviation We have a separate exclusive apron and terminal available for all general aviation flights. It is located at the eastern end of taxiway D6 and is called Apron 11. Sometimes larger GA aircraft can also be found at the western edge of the Terminal 1 area. 2.2 Ground Controller Responsibility Figure 3: Ground Controller Responsibility Effective: October 2, 2014 Seite 5 of 12

2 Airport Overview The above picture shows the basic layout of Munich Airport, highlighted with the ATC responsibilities. Be aware, that multiple apron, ground and tower controllers can be online. 3 Departure 3 Departure 3.1 Delivery After your initial call the Delivery controller will assign you a specific SID and squawk. Each SID designator refers to exactly one runway, as you can see on the charts. If you are unable to follow a SID inform the controller and expect vectors for your departure. Listen carefully to Delivery for the Apron frequency you need to use next. 3.2 Apron Contact the apron controller for pushback, as the clearance given to you by Delivery only authorizes you for start-up. Do not rely on login names, rely on the frequency! Never push back without clearance, others are taxiing around you! Apron s area of responsibility ends when you reach the "bridges" or as we call them, Entries. Expect your taxi clearance to be issued in two parts, one clearance to the entry, one from the entry to the runway. "DLH123 taxi to entry N4 via W2 and D1." 3.3 Ground "München Ground" will guide you from the entries to the runway. Expect intersection take offs if you fly a small plane. If you want to shorten taxi time, you can always request an intersection take off on this frequency regardless of your aircraft size. The hand-off from Ground to Tower usually works a little different than at other airports. Most of the time ground will advise you to "Stand by for Tower" on a specific frequency. You do not have to contact Tower in this case, just tune the frequency and listen closely - Tower will call you when it s your turn. 3.4 Tower As stated in the charts remain on the Tower frequency until further advised. 3.5 Departure As stated on the charts initial climb out of Munich is FL70, with a transition altitude of 5000. Effective: October 2, 2014 Seite 7 of 12

4 Arrival 4 Arrival 4.1 Arrival Even if you did not file a STAR in your flight plan, which should be done, we expect you to continue on the STAR matching your route until you reach the clearance limit BETOS, NAPSA, LANDU or ROKIL. Plan your descent according to the vertical planning information on the star charts. Expect RNAV transitions! Do not turn onto final unless you are cleard by ATC. Tell the Approach controller immediately if your aircraft is not equipped for the transitions. 4.2 Director If Director is online, you will have to contact him with your callsign only. 4.3 Tower After landing you can vacate the runways via the high-speed turn-offs. A table of landing distances according to the appropriate high-speed turn-off is written on the ground chart. If no Ground controller is online Tower will give you the taxi instructions to the apron entry (N1-4 or S1-8). 4.4 Ground The ground controller will guide you from the runway to the apron entry. If not online, tower will give you the taxi instruction from the runway to the apron entry (N1-4 or S1-8). "DLH123 taxi to entry N4 via A6 and N." Expect handoffs to apron on the entry points. For more information about your expected terminal read chapter 2. 4.5 Apron Taxi short cuts to the gate can be given by the controller only. Effective: October 2, 2014 Seite 8 of 12

5 Miscellaneous 5 Miscellaneous 5.1 ILS frequencies Due to some major changes since AIRAC 1011, some ILS and other nav aid frequencies have been changed. Please tune the frequencies according to your scenery. FS9 payware and FSX free- and payware linked on the homepage are up-to-date. 5.2 Feedback and Community We are very interested in any kind of feedback, be it a positive experience you had in Munich or a negative one. We want to constantly improve our service to you and we need your help to do this! Also, please consider giving us your opinion on the material we provide, including this briefing - was it helpful, where did you miss information we should add, etc. The feedback form is located at http://www.vatsim-germany.org/. Thank you very much for your help, we really appreciate it. Effective: October 2, 2014 Seite 9 of 12
