Day 1 Arrive Quito, ECUADOR Welcome to Quito! You are met upon arrival and taken to your designer hotel in the newer, northern part of the city. Quito, at 10,000 feet above sea, is nestled deep within the valley of towering snow-capped Andean volcanoes. The rest of today is at leisure to relax or explore Quito on your own. Meals: None included Hotel: Casa Gagnotena, Quito Day 2 Quito to Coca & the Napo River This morning, you are taken to the Quito airport for your flight to Coca. You jungle adventure begins on this scenic half-hour flight soaring over the eastern Andes mountain range. You are met upon arrival, and transferred to the river port, where you board a covered motor boat for your cruise along the Napo River. Lose yourself in the sights and sounds during this two-hour journey on the largest Ecuadorian tributary of the Amazon. Your guide helps you spot the wide variety of monkeys, and large birds such as toucans, parrots, and macaws. Travel into the Amazonian rainforest, and enter Yasuni National Park. Biologically speaking Yasuni is considered one of the most unique and immensely bio-diverse ecosystems on the planet. Arrive at your remote eco lodge in the early afternoon. You are ceremoniously welcomed, and then have time to rest in your cabin set amidst the teeming wilderness. Later in the day, take an introductory guided walk along the Napo riverbank, then a cayman observation by paddle canoe. Hotel: Yasuni Kichwa Ecolodge, Yasuni Day 3 Yasuni Kichwa to Napo Wildlife Center If you choose to arise early, get up before the sun and share a cherished ancient custom of the Kichwa culture - making wayusa. Listen to the kichwa songs as you energize the body, and peacefully meditate. After breakfast, depart the lodge to experience life above the forest floor while visiting the 120-foot canopy tower. Set deep within the forest, here you can look for some of the 567 species of birds and animals that reside in this jungle, including colorful tanagers, macaws, toucans, flycatchers and the Spider and Howler Monkeys feeding themselves on the trees.
Next, you continue on to the Lodge at the Napo Wildlife Center for a typical Ecuadorian lunch. Afterwards you have time to relax, take a swim in the lake, or perhaps climb the dining room tree tower for some bird-watching. Later in the afternoon, adventure on a hike through a marvelous Tropical Rainforest. Discover the ecology of this complex world - vines, ancient trees, bromeliads, and orchids stand out in this impressive natural garden. Then explore the surrounding creeks in search of the Giant Otter family. Hotel: Napo Wildlife Center, Yasuni Day 4 Napo Wildlife Center Start early this morning, and paddle downstream on the Añangu creek to reach the best parrot clay licks in Ecuador. Take a brief guided motor boat ride to get wonderful views of thousands of parrots such as Amazon-Mealy, blue-headed, orange cheek, and more. Watch as they land on the ground to eat the clay earth. Next, enjoy a short hike to the parakeets clay lick, where hundreds of cobalt-winged parakeets remain on the top of the trees searching for the best time to eat the salts, chemicals and minerals contained in the organic matter. In the afternoon, visit the center s interpretation area to witness the traditions of the ancestral Kichwa community of Añangu, and share a traditional ceremony with the shaman. Hotel: Napo Wildlife Center, Yasuni Day 5 Napo Wildlife Center Begin the day with a guided hike along the Tiputini trail. Explore the terra-firma and swamp forests, searching for more wildlife such as Golden-Mantled Tamarins, White-Faced capuchin monkey, two and three toed sloths, and pigmy squirrels. Your guide shows you how to track the carnivores by examining the tracks they leave on the forest floor. After lunch and a rest at the lodge, a paddle canoe excursion takes you deeper into the surrounding creeks to spot more unique wildlife. This evening watch a video about the community and the Napo Wildlife Center. Hotel: Napo Wildlife Center, Yasuni Page 3 of 6
