Dear Parents/ Guardians, The 2018 Rockaway Township Summer Recreation Program is underway! I would like to welcome all of our new camp families and thank all of our returning families for making this program a continued success. Enclosed you will find all of the information you will need to know. Please take the time to review it since we have changed some things and fun days! Know that this is just one more step we are taking to make our summer with you and your camper go as smoothly as possible. For the summer of 2018 we will be back to three schools, unlike last summer. This summer we will be at Birchwood, Dwyer and K.D.M. In order to get the school you want please register early, once the location reaches its camper limit no more campers will be allowed to register for that location; however you will be able to register for the other location that is still available. As we begin another year of camp, I want all of us to reflect on what makes this program GREAT! We are a successful playground, recreation program fit to provide over 500 campers with 6 weeks of safe, supervised fun. We have counselors who used to be campers themselves, campers who can t wait for the day they can wear the white and green counselor shirts and parents who know that, through many ups and downs, Summer Recreation has always been a consistent place for community fun. If you have any concerns or questions this summer, you should always address them with your child s Head Counselor first. They are fully trained, highly qualified professionals. They deal with many types of issues involving children year round. They are your first line of defense and your greatest supports. As a staff, we always make it a point to communicate all of our concerns with our parents as much as possible. What is a concern to you may not be a concern to us and vice versa. But, we cannot fix what we do not know is broken. If you have a concern, please come and talk to us. Our doors are always open and we will make every effort to address your concern as quickly as possible. So, thank you for making Summer Recreation what it is and what it continues to be; a safe place for all of our campers and counselors to enjoy! As a Recreation Staff, we are looking forward to providing you and your camper with another worry free, safe, fun summer. If you should have any questions, concerns or commendations about our program, please feel free to contact me at summerrec@rockawaytownship.org. Best regards, Miss Rebecca Burrows, Director Rockaway Township Summer Recreation Program

Just a couple of camp reminders The camp day begins at 9 am and ends at 12 noon. Please be prompt when dropping off and picking up your child. We ask that parents arrive no later than 12:10 pm. If you are unable to pick your child up by this time, make alternate arrangements ahead of time and prior to sending your child to camp. In the event that you are late to pick up your child, we know that these things happen, please call the Recreation Department at 973-983-2841 and let them know. They will contact the Director of the program as well as the Head Counselor of your child s school. Be sure your child is ready for Recreation! Sneakers must be worn and sun block is a great idea! Also, please send your child to camp with a snack and water bottle/ drink every day. S nacks that may contain peanuts or any kind of nuts are not allowed. All buses for trips will be leaving the recreation camp sites at around 9:15. Counselors and bus drivers have been instructed to leave promptly around this time. No buses will wait for campers who arrive late. Be sure to read the trip brochure. Any camper not wearing proper attire for a trip or any camper who does not have the correct amount of money for a trip will be asked to stay at the recreation site. Counselors will not call parents and trips will not be delayed. If you need to pick your child (ren) up early from camp (before 12 noon) please find the Head or Assistant Head Counselor to sign him/ her out. This helps all counselors keep track of camper attendance. Electronics are not allowed at camp. Please have your child (ren) leave them at home, this way there is no way they can be broken, lost or stolen. If a camper does decide to bring it to camp, we are not responsible for the device. The camper(s) will be told to put it away and join the activity their group is doing. NEW Summer 2018!! All campers will now need a signed permission slip to attend all field trips along with the fee of the trip the morning of each trip. No camper will be permitted to get onto a bus without the permission slip! (additional permission slips will be at the camp or found in this packet)

KDM Pick Up and Drop Off This will be in effect the first day of camp! To make pickup and drop off at KDM a little easier and safer for our campers, I would appreciate that all cars do one of the following: (1) Form two car lines in the front of the school, one near the landing and the other near the front grass area leaving a middle lane open, and gradually drive your way to the front of both lines. During drop off, please have your camper get out of your car so they can be safely escorted to the landing area by a counselor. They will then be directed to go to the gym for the morning meeting. During pickup, your camper will be dismissed to you and will walk directly to your car only if your car is in the landing area. No camper will be allowed to walk to a car that is near the entrance of the school. Camp staff will be on the landing available to assist and watch campers. OR (2) You may choose to park and walk to the landing area for both drop off and/ or pick up. Please park only in the front or side parking lots. This will ensure that no camper is running off the landing to a parked car alone and into the line of traffic of cars pulling into and out of the school. If you choose to do this, please notify your child s counselor that you have taken your child. Also, I would appreciate that no one parks or waits for their camper on the ramp or hill located on the right side of the school near the side parking lot. Our number one priority is to make sure that our campers and staff are safe. Anyone who is signing their child(ren) out at the end of the day will follow the above procedures for the morning drop off but will need to park their car for pick up as your child(ren) will be on the landing with a counselor waiting for you to sign him/ her out. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding! Miss Rebecca Burrows, Director Rockaway Township Summer Recreation
