Asst. Chapter Director: From the desk of your ACD: Hello everyone, Once again, I have missed most of the activities in October and early November, this has just got to stop!! I was in Ohio again the latter part of October and my back is still giving me fits and keeping me off my trike. I think I saw some big alligator tears around my trike the other day when I went out to check on her. She s sad that she s not getting out and enjoying this beautiful fall weather! I did attend the chapter Maintenance Day on November 9 th at Glenn and Donna s. It was a cool and breezy day but we had good fellowship, good food and those that needed work done on their bikes got it done. It was great to see so many of our Chapter S members in attendance! Kaye and Larry s grandson Ethan, is in Levine Childrens Hospital in Charlotte, NC. Ethan is 15 and a sick young man. As of this writing, (Sunday, November 10 th ) they don t have a definite diagnosis so please keep Ethan, Kaye and Larry, and all their family in your prayers. I am so hoping I will be back on my trike in the near future! Don t forget to dress appropriately for the cooler weather. Also, be watchful of the falling leaves, especially on wet roads, and the possibility of frost on the roads in the shaded areas in the mornings, those things can be very dangerous on a motorcycle! Until next time, Your ACD, Jane Brinck We would like to thank you for your thoughts and prayers, as well as your calls, during our time of sorrow. The chapter s donation to the Whitmire Rescue Squad is greatly appreciated. Glenn and Donna Bumgarner 4
Membership Enhancement: The colder weather is setting in and for some the riding season is over, but we continue to get out and visit the mountains and other places of interest. Our ride to the mountains was a great ride, and we enjoyed the scenic view as well as the fellowship. It was a perfect day for a ride, and we spent most of the day on the road. We also rode to Chapter I and captured the plaque. We will be hosting the other chapters in South Carolina this month at San Jose Mexican Restaurant. Even though the weather is getting too cold for some people to ride, remember to tell other bikers you see as you are out about us and invite them to come and visit with us at our monthly meeting and ride with us. If you need any promotional literature, please let us know. Our fall maintenance day was a fun-filled day with some maintenance, lots of good food, and great fellowship. It was a little chilly, but we had plenty of hot coffee and hot chocolate to warm us up, as well as the outside heater on the deck. If you were unable to join us, we missed you, and we hope you plan to join us next year. We recruited two new members that day, Carol Sanders and Terry Lake. Both of them have been participating with us, but they are now members of our Best Overall Chapter. Please welcome them to our GWRRA family and fill them in on our chapter life. Bill announced at our maintenance day that we would not be able to have a bake sale to raise money for the Newberry Boys Farm and suggested that we make donations to the cause. We had a good response, and we appreciate your donations. We look forward to seeing you at the monthly gathering and the plaque attack. Donna Bumgarner bumgarnerg@bellsouth.com Chapter S got the Traveling Plaque on October 26 from Chapter I: Glenn & Donna, Carol & Gordon, Wayne, Bill, Roger, Jon, Buddy & Kim attended. 5
Rider Educator: Well, it is that time of year again. T's the season for giving. How many of us have been on a toy ride? How about a mountain ride to see the colors? Or how about a ride, local or otherwise, for the kids or the veterans? I've got one more ride we can go on and this one can be done any time of year. Let's do a ride for safety. When we ride for safety we do not have to bring a toy for a child or bring food for the hungry or homeless or a blanket for the veterans. When we ride for safety it is all for our self and our loved ones. We need to remember to check our tires do we have the right amount of pressure in each tire, is there enough tread to ride safely? We have to be sure to check our brakes, do the front and back brakes work, do our lights work when we put the brakes on? Are we dressed appropriately, is our clothing layered or do our "lectrics all work? All of these things are done to help keep us and others safe. Many people are unable to ride by this time of year due to the weather but we can ride all year long due to our warmer climate so let s be sure to be very safety conscious. Let s make every ride a ride for safety so we can continue to have fun and fellowship. Dee Collyer Ride Educator Chapter S Mountain Ride November 2 nd 6

Editor s Comments: Last week when the chapter was having Maintenance Day, Buddy and I visited Chapter A in Anderson and took a trip to Georgia for their annual Wind Down. We rode the trike and it was a very cold, dark ride from Anderson to lower Georgia Friday night, but the unknown was the fun part. We rode roads that we had never been on and saw places we probably won t see again. There were people at the Wind Down that we hadn t seen in years, so it was a trip worth taking. We enjoyed representing Region A as their couple and we met so many new friends. All in all, it was a great trip! We have two new members sign up with Chapter S. Please welcome Carol Sanders and Terry Lake. You have been with us on events and rides, so we already feel like you are part of our family. Welcome to Chapter S. There s many charity rides and events coming up the next two months and Goldwingers will be there to support these happenings. Thanksgiving is definitely a time to give thanks. Buddy and I are so glad to have the opportunity to experience and enjoy it all. We are so fortunate! We have home, family, and friends to be thankful for. Don t forget the small things in your life that make your world preasureable. See you on the road. Kim Summer buddykimsum@gmail.com Maintenance Day 8
