Day of the Dinosaur Cub Scout Day Camp What is Day Camp? Cub day camp is organized by the council and is a one-to-five day program for Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, and Webelos Scouts. Day camp does not include overnight activities, but can be conducted during the morning, afternoon, and evening hours. Day camps are based on themes and include fun activities in nature, shooting sports, games, aquatics, and crafts. Day camp is lots of fun! All camps are nationally certified. How long is day camp and which camp do I register for? The Las Vegas Area Council offers several camps, offering similar programs, and varying in length. Day camps will vary from four-to-eight hours of programming, typically done in one day; to 12-20 hours of programming conducted over many days. For a complete list of day camp dates, locations, and times please see the 2015 day camp schedule. Units and individuals are able to choose which camp to register for. How can I participate as a parent? Parents are needed to make every camp a big success! Please volunteer to help with your selected Day Camp! Complete the attached Volunteer Staff Registration Form. You can also submit everything online at www.lvacbsa.org. Camp Information that every Parent, Cub, and Leader should know: 1. All Cub Scouts must be signed in and out of camp on a daily basis. Cub Scouts are to arrive no earlier than 30 minutes before camp begins and must check in. and should be picked up promptly after camp is over. 2. Dress is the official Day Camp T-Shirt (given to boys on the first day) and Cub Scout uniform. Shoes are required for each day. No flip flops or sandals. 3. Each day send a water bottle and sack lunch with your boy. 4. No knives, radios, sports equipment, or personal items may be brought to day camp. No dogs at camp. 5. All medicines must be given to the Health Officer. Please label medications with name and time to be taken. All leaders and youth submit a BSA health form (parts A & B) to the Council office one month prior to camp. Found online at lvacbsa.org. 6. A cover or Recap sheet is needed for paper registration/sign-up. 7. Please provide two-deep leadership and additional leaders if you have more than eight boys. 8. Non-Scout children of day camp volunteers will be permitted at camps with tot lots, but must pre-register in the Tot Lot Registration Form and submit a Health Form (Parts A & B). 9. A Pack may choose to attend any day camp being held in the Council and may attend more than one. 10. Buy an extra shirt for youth at $8 a shirt. Indicate extra shirt on registration form recap sheet. Adults who attend all days of the camp get a free shirt. If you want an extra shirt or are attending less than the full camp dates, the cost of a shirt is $12. Day Camp Fee Schedule & Camp Information Fee includes a T-shirt, patch, craft projects, program supplies, liability & camper insurance, and a world of fun! Day Camp fees are non-refundable but are transferable to another day camp or to another youth. Each camp listed in this brochure will accept a maximum number of Scouts. We will take applications on a FIRST COME- FIRST SERVE basis. Camp pricing is tiered based on how many program hours each camp is. Take attendance at the start of each day and report it to the camp director after opening. Do a head count upon arriving at each program area and follow posted procedures for missing boy if count is not correct. Go over schedule with boys at start of each day and hand out name tags/bags. Escort den from place to place, encouraging singing and den yells as you move from one station to another. Assist in program area as needed. Make sure each boy receives his recognition item at the end of each station. Maintain camper safety and follow medical procedures for camp. Maintain control over the den. Report any problems you cannot handle to the camp director. Never yell or belittle. Check Boys out of camp each day. 3.
