The bejewelled capital of Istanbul sits between two continents and is home to 450 mosques. First you will visit the Hippodrome; the former centre of sports and political activities and then the famous Blue Mosque, with its six minarets and sparkling interior. Continue to the Topkapi Palace, once home to royal Sultans. Inside, you ll see the fabled jewels of the Treasury, delicate displays of Chinese porcelain in the Kitchen Quarters. After your visit to the palace, the tour will take you for a walk through Hagia Sophia which, for 1000 years, was the largest church in Christendom. Built by Justinian (532-537 AD), the church has 107 columns, fossils imbedded in the white marble floors and beautiful glass mosaics, today, it is the Museum of Byzantine Art. From here you will walk through the isles and alleys of the Grand Bazaar. Surround yourself with smells of cinnamon, cloves, thyme and other exotic spices as you explore the Grand Bazaar; there are over 4000 shops that sell everything from herbs to gold. After the tour is concluded you will return to the hotel, where you will have the rest of the evening at your own leisure. Overnight: Armada Hotel, Istanbul Day 4 Istanbul - Cappadocia After breakfast, you will be transferred to Istanbul Ataturk Airport for a flight to Kayseri (approx. 1.5 hours). Upon arrival you will enjoy a guided tour. The first visit will be the lunar landscape of Cappadocia - amazing rock formations beyond belief in the Devrent Valley. Scientifically proven to cure many ailments, the waters attract many people all year round. You will walk barefoot up through the formations on the travertine path, starting at the south gate to the site. It is not permitted to wear shoes, to prevent eroding or staining of the delicate calcite deposits - you will carry your footwear along in a bag. One can still see graceful columns, mosaics and frescoes.
