West coast, Wine and Southern tip cycle Trip Overview This cycling tour is a great way to explore the west coast which is not that over populated. We get a great appreciation of the local people still living in their natural manner and ways, learning all kind of interesting aspects. We Cycle good distances with a backup vehicle. Enjoy the natural hot springs a wonder in the middle of nowhere, we cycle some great passes with stunning views and taste wines not so much of commercial back grounds but private reserves. Visit the most southerly point in Africa and get to spend some time in search of whales in Hemarnus. We also cycle part of the Cape Argus route and see penguins in their natural environment before returning to the oldest city in South Africa. Round About total distance cycled on this trip is 600 km & 370 Miles with great scenery and good tar mac roads. Day 1 Cape Town Meet and greet at Cape Ton airport. We will from here arrive at our lodge for a quick bike set-up before we head out for our fist cycle in the mother city. We shall be cycling past places like St Georges cathedral, Company gardens, old slave benches and the aim it to be in the Bo-Kaap Upper cape or old slave houses where we will have a lunch with a difference. After this w continue our cycle back to our lodge where we now will check in and relax. Regroup later and go out for supper at one of the local restaurants. (+- 15km & 9 Miles) Included: Airport Transfer, Lunch.
Day 2 Langebaan After breakfast we do a short transfer out of town and start our cycle toward Blouberg strand where will have the opportunity to take photos of the iconic Table Mountain in the back over the ocean. We still cycle further and enjoy a cup of coffee at Melbostrand. From here we carry on cycling stopping for lunch on route and eventually reaching Darling where we will load out bikes and transfer the last bit to Langebaan our lodge for the night overlooking the Atlantic Ocean with blue-turquoise waters. We should be here late afternoon so a quick paddle or swim in the waters before we regroup for supper. (+- 65km & 40 miles) Included: Breakfast, Lunch. Day 3 Langebaan After breakfast we start out cycle from our lodge and head out to the West Coast National Park. We will by cycling here and exploring what this park has to offer park the bikes we will stroll he beaches and have lunch before we cycle back to our lodge for the night and have free time to explore the town or relax by the beach and enjoy a cold beer. We regroup later for supper. (+- 20km & 12 Miles) Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Entrance to West Coast National Park. Day 4 Elandsbaai After breakfast we do a short transfer past Sladanha bay see if we can spot a navy ship and drive further Veldrift where will start out cycle on the coast to our lodge in Elandsbaai for the night. This is a beautiful stretch of road with lots of view over the ocean, along route we will stop for lunch and enjoy the solitude of the west coast. We aim to arrive late afternoon enough time to check in and go off and stroll the beach tonight we find some fresh lobster at the local restaurant and enjoy a hearty meal. (+- 65km & 40 Miles) Included: Breakfast, Lunch, supper.
Day 5 the Baths After a yummy breakfast we do a short transfer and cycle toward Clan William where we will load out bikes have lunch, then transfer to the hot Springs of The baths our lodge for the night. We can relax in the natural hot springs waters and get that aching muscles rested. We regroup later and have a Traditional Braai BBQ for supper. (+- 40km & 24 Miles) Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Supper Day 6 Ceres After a scrumptious breakfast we do a short transfer then its back on or bikes again for a good day cycling to our lodge in Ceres, we will cycle alongside the Kouebokkeberge Cold Antelope Mountains, on our right had side for a distance before reaching out lodge. The aim here today is to arrive late in the afternoon and check in to a lovely guesthouse. It is a long day cycle but easily do able with several stops for snacks and water. (+- 70km & 42 Miles) Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Supper Day 7 Robertson After breakfast we cycle from our lodge on the longest wine route in the world. It s a relatively short cycle today. We stop at the National road and do a short transfer to the town of Robertson. We will do lunch at one of the road stalls and today as we are in the wine region we will visit a few estates in and around our lodge. And for those who wanted to we can also taste Brandy. We plan to go and visit three cellars and check into our lodge for the night. Supper at one of the local restaurants. (+- 50km & 30 Miles) Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Wine tasting entrances.
Day 8 Cape L aghulas After breakfast we do a short transfer and cycle the last stretch to Breedas dorp in the Overberg district. As we cycle we need to keep and eye out for the National Bird the Blue crane. It is lovely scenery today as we will cycle past many field which adds to the style of the garden route. As we enter Breedas dorp we will load our bikes and transfer to the most southern point ton the African continent. We aim to arrive there for lunch and will be treated to the best fish and chips in the southern coast. Now it s time to go to the most southern tip get a great picture with your bicycle off course we are on a cycle holiday after all. We then walk a short distance to the iconic Lighthouse and climb o the top with great views. We will check into out lodge for the night and go to the beach to feel the big difference between the Atlantic and India Ocean. But wait maybe the resident sting ray is in the harbor so and we can go and see it. (+- 50km & 30 Miles) Included: breakfast, Lunch, entrance to Lighthouse. Day 9 Hermanus After Breakfast we do a short transfer back to breedas dorp and cycle towards the town of Napier we relax with a cup of coffee before we cycle further to Fair flied. Here we need to load our cycles and transfer to the beginning of the akkadis berg pass Lizard Mountain Pass. We cycle this pass to our lunch spot, have some lunch after this we go and taste some beer or wine at the renound Birkenhead brewery. Relaxing and enjoying the views of Hemel op Aarde we then transfer to last bit to our lodge in hermanus. We aim to arrive late afternoon and will check in before enjoying a hot meal at the lodge. (+- 55km & 33 Miles) Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Beer or wine tasting,
Day 10 Hermanus Today we have a free day in Hermanus to go and spot whales on a boat charter or relax in town. We can also hike the Hemel op Aarde reserve in the back or relax on the beach Hemanus is one of the best places in the world to see whales when from the land in season which is Mid-June to Mid-November. So even if you don t what to go onto the boat you v=can sit on one of the many benches overlooking the ocean and keep your eyes peeled. Later this day we plan to regroup and go up rotary drive to see the views over the town enjoy a sundowner drink and go for supper. Note: Out of season we will include a kayak experience in the bay of Walker bay. Included: Breakfast, Sundowner drink. Day 11 Simons town After a scrumptious breakfast we have a long distance cycle today but one of the best cycles on the coast as we will cycle alongside False Bay toward the town of Gordons Bay. We will most certainly stop alongside this road today as scenery wise it is magical and great view point make it easy for us to stop regularly and take it all in before we arrive in Gordons bay where we will load out bikes and transfer the distance to Simons town our home for the night. We aim to arrive late in the afternoon just enough time to check in and go for supper but will wake up the next morning with great views over False Bay and Simon s town below us. (+- 90km & 55 Miles) Included: Breakfast, Lunch.
Day 12 Simons town After breakfast we will transfer to the Cape of Good Hope. Here we will do a short walk up to the lighthouses before changing into our cycle clothes and start our cycle to the exit. Here we will cycle to Boulders beach enjoy a lunch and walk to see the African Penguins which will entertain us for a while. If there is enough energy left we cycle a short distance back to our lodge. And relax overlooking the views. Regroup and go out for supper. It is an easy day cycle today (+- 25km & 15 Miles) Included: Breakfast, entrance to Cape of Good Hope, entrance to Boulders Beach. Day 13 Cape town After breakfast we cycle from our lodge to Cape Town. We will cycle part of the Cape Argus route today on route we stop at places, like Scarborough, Misty cliffs, Kommetjie, Imhoff, Houtbay and so on we will cycle the iconic and very scenic chapman peak with is 114 bends and views to die for. We eventually after lunch cycle over Suikerbosie and reach Clifton where we load our bikes and transfer to our lodge. It is a great day cycle today with lots of scenery and challenges. (+- 65km & 40 Miles) Included: Breakfast, lunch Day 14 Tour ends in Cape Town Dependent on your flight departure there is time to go to Table Mountain, or Robben Island both optional activities. Transfer to Cape Town airport Included: Breakfast, Airport or Hotel transfer
Notes: If you are not able to or just want to sit a cycle stretch out there is a backup vehicle that will be in full support of this tour and you may at anytime make use of the vehicle. We will also provide all the snacks and water needed for this tour on the cycle days as we will break cycle days up into stages. Like between 15 and 20 km stretches.no HELMET NO RIDE so BRING YOUR HELMET Accommodations we will be staying in Guesthouses ranging from 3 to 4 star, it supports the local people and gives us a more local feeling they are all rated high and is perfectly suited for this tour. Meals: Breakfast will generally consist of Bacon and eggs, continental. Lunches will be at local establishments, and the odd sandwich with a selection of toppings, cold meats, cheese, tomato etc.suppers will generally be braai BBQ, stir fry s, stews etc. Unless we eat out at restaurants.
