Studying travel at The Gordon allowed me to combine my passion for working with the public and my love of travel, and it has turned out to be the perfect job for me. The Gordon s educators were motivated, encouraging and honest. They believed in our abilities and were always there to lend a hand where needed. One of the course highlights was an excursion to Tullamarine Airport, where we were taken behind the scenes by Royal Brunei representatives. I m currently working for Helloworld Ocean Grove. My job as a Travel Consultant involves turning peoples travel dreams into a reality. In this role, you need passion for what you do, motivation and drive, along with good interpersonal skills, excellent research skills and attention to detail. Being a Travel Consultant is not a glamorous job as so many believe it to be. It is hard work and mentally exhausting, but very rewarding in so many ways. Tanya McCosker Certificate III in Travel, 2015 I have always loved running events and throwing parties, so when the Diploma of Events caught my eye I was hooked. I knew that s exactly what I wanted to do. The Gordon was convenient, flexible, and offered lots of support. Being taught by someone like Isabel who has real experience in the events sector, made a huge difference to me. I was determined to absorb all of her knowledge and hands-on experience. We were also encouraged to seek out our own placements and contacts in areas that we were interested in, which helped me start my events career. I currently work for the Leukaemia Foundation on their VIC/TAS Campaigns team. My role includes supporting campaign participants, organising public events and planning the Leukaemia Foundation s annual fundraising campaigns. I also own my own business, which runs events across Geelong and Melbourne. I love working in this sector, the people I meet every day are amazing! Sharney Bowen Diploma of Events, 2016 3 3
