Seasonal Travel Advisors Visit Belfast would like to appoint a number of Seasonal Travel Advisors to meet current business needs. Post holders will be based mainly in the Visit Belfast Welcome Centre (VBWC), however, some shifts may be based at either Belfast International Airport Visitor Information Centre (BIA VIC) or George Best Belfast City Airport Visitor Information Centre (GBBCA VIC). Full time and part time posts will be available (various contract lengths - June to September). Post-holders will provide an efficient and comprehensive information and ticketing service for local tours, events and festivals for Belfast / Northern Ireland residents and visitors to Belfast and Northern Ireland. Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer care skills will be essential. A thorough knowledge of tours, events and festivals, as well as an excellent knowledge of Belfast and Northern Ireland as a holiday destination is required. Good administrative and organisational skills, and a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook is required. Fluency in a European language is desirable preferably Spanish and German. Job Description POSITION: DEPARTMENT: REPORTING TO: SALARY: Travel Advisor (Seasonal) Full time (37.5 hours per week) Seasonal (June / July to August / September) Variable Contracts Visitor Servicing Visit Belfast Welcome Centre (George Best Belfast City Airport / Belfast International Airport) Visit Belfast Welcome Centre Manager 15,971-18,122 pro rata All Travel Advisors are responsible to the Manager of the Visit Belfast Welcome Centre Visitor Information Centre (VBWC VIC) for the provision of an efficient and comprehensive information service primarily for visitors arriving into Belfast and Northern Ireland but also for Northern Ireland residents. We are looking for Seasonal Travel Advisors, mainly for the Visit Belfast Welcome Centre, but also for ad hoc staffing requirements at the Belfast International Airport Visitor Information Centre (BIA VIC) and the George Best Belfast City Airport Visitor Information Centre (GBBCA VIC) and occasional off-site cover for cruise ships or other events. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: i. Provide an information service on attractions, transport, events, places of interest etc. in Belfast and Northern Ireland for tourists and Northern Ireland residents visiting the Visit Belfast Welcome Centre or Airport VICs. ii. Provide an accommodation booking service for tourists and Northern Ireland residents to premises inside & outside Northern Ireland. iii. The booking of transport tickets, tours through the Visit Belfast Welcome Centre VIC. The sale of literature / other goods and services and associated cash handling e.g. Retail / Bureau de Change. iv. The selling / cross-selling / up-selling for events / tours / festivals through a ticketing system. v. Sales of gifts through the gift shop, including reaching daily sales targets. vi. The daily servicing of electronic mail / postal enquiries by the selection of the appropriate literature and the typing of necessary correspondence. vii. The daily statistical recording of all enquiries / sales from whatever source. viii. The daily / weekly maintenance of information files and records and racking of literature displays. 4
ix. The procuring of up-to-date publicity and promotional material from all relevant sources for display in, and distribution from the Visit Belfast Welcome Centre VIC. x. Attendance, when required, at receptions and exhibitions (locally and internationally) in which Visit Belfast (VB) or Tourism Northern Ireland (TNI) are involved. xi. Working off-site as required e.g. cruise ships, events etc xii. Working as required at both the George Best Belfast City Airport and Belfast International Airport Visitor Information Centres. xiii. The provision of any other form of service with which the post holder may be charged in accordance with Visit Belfast s general activities. xiv. To communicate effectively with other Visit Belfast Departments to ensure integrated activity across the organisation. xv. Support the team in the development and maintenance of effective working relationships with Visit Belfast s partners, sponsors and the industry as appropriate. xvi. Undertake other duties as required. PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL Visit Belfast operates a system of performance appraisal set against a set of pre-determined targets / objectives. HOURS OF WORK Hours will vary according to the time of year. Current summer hours are: Monday to Saturday 09.00 to 19.00 and Sundays 11.00 to 16.00. Evenings, weekends, bank & public holiday work will be a normal part of duties. Airport shifts vary from 07.30 to 19.00. Cruise ship duties will require an earlier start circa 07.45am. UNIFORM Uniforms will be provided along with the Visit Belfast uniform policy. The Travel Adviser uniform will consist of a branded polo shirt and fleece which should be worn along with plain black jeans and shoes. SMOKING POLICY Visit Belfast operates a no smoking policy. Smoking is strictly prohibited within Visit Belfast sites. 5
Personnel Specification Essential Criteria Qualifications At least 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C or above, including English and Maths. Desirable Criteria Third level qualification, or equivalent, in a relevant discipline (Travel / Tourism / Leisure / Hospitality/Business/ Languages etc.) Relevant Experience One year s administration / clerical / customer service work experience. Proven and demonstrable experience in sales / selling skills. Cash handling experience / till handling experience. A thorough knowledge of Belfast and Northern Ireland as a tourism destination. Work experience of ticketing systems. Experience of working in the tourist information service, visitor focused position, travel trade or similar Special Aptitudes Excellent written and spoken English Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills Excellent and demonstrable working knowledge and experience in working with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook (Please specify clearly on your application form).
