Bay Bulls Boat Tour Program Highlights Spend 11 days discovering the remote and stunning beauty of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador Canada s eastern-most treasure. Enjoy beautiful St. John s, the province s largest city, with its colorfully painted houses, delicious seafood, and friendly people. Set out on a boat tour of Bay Bulls to spot for whales, puffins, and a myriad of other bird species. Stroll through the North Atlantic Aviation Museum in Gander and learn how the town assisted travelers during 9/11. Explore Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with its soaring fjords, rugged mountains, and native wildlife. Visit L Anse Aux Meadows also a UNESCO World Heritage site, and home of Leif the Lucky and the Viking people who settled this area as early as the year 1,000 A.D. Spend two days in remote Labrador the mainland portion of the province with its vast landscapes and charming lighthouses. During a dramatic drive along the Labrador coast, visit Red Bay another UNESCO World Heritage site. Special Faculty Leader: William Fitzhugh 64 William Fitzhugh 64, is the director of the Smithsonian s Arctic Studies Center at the National Museum of Natural History. Bill is an anthropologist specializing in circumpolar archaeology, ethnology, and cultures of northern Canada, Alaska, Siberia, and Scandinavia and has produced many publications, international exhibitions, and films on the subject, including work on the NOVA specials on North Americans and the Vikings. Bill is an advisor to the Arctic Research Commission, represents the Smithsonian arctic social science in various interagency councils, and serves on the Smithsonian Science Commission.
