BROKEN HILL THE LIVING DESERT (included in your journey - this tour operates October to March) Broken Hill has long been known as a centre of excellence for the art of painting, and The Living Desert Sculpture Site is a wonderful inclusion in the town s creative history. The Living Desert Reserve is nestled amongst the Barrier Ranges and is located 9km from the City of Broken Hill. The Sculpture site is located on a majestic hilltop within the centre of the reserve. Completed in 1993 by artists from around the world, the area comprises of 12 sandstone artworks which highlight the skyline, all with a story to tell. The Living Desert Sculpture site is a self-guided walk offering breath-taking views of the NSW outback and is the perfect location to capture some stunning photos. BROKEN HILL PRO HART GALLERY (included in your journey) SHOPPING OPPORTUNITY Paris, New York, London and Broken Hill. You might not think it, but this town s art scene could rival those of the biggest art capitals in the world. An artist that represents the cheeky and colourful charm of Broken Hill, the late Kevin Pro Hart s gallery is not to be missed when in town. Visit Pro Hart s gallery where on display is a wide selection of his signature paintings. Browse all three floors of this inspiring gallery to learn how Pro created his masterpieces by drawing inspiration from experimenting with new forms of expression, sculpting with metal and stone, and tinkering away in his back shed to create all kinds of contraptions. BROKEN HILL MINERS MEMORIAL AND TRADES HALL (included in your journey) The Miner s Memorial is a unique and striking structure that sits at a height of 54 metres overlooking Broken Hill. This attraction is located on the highest point of the Line of Lode remnant mullock dumps that traverse the city. The short axis of this building faces east-west addressing the rising and setting of the sun in memoriam to over 800 miners who lost their lives working in the Broken Hill Mines. This structure is an important monument to the city for both tourism and education about Broken Hill s rich mining history. Walking past the walls lined with the names of miners, you will reach the ledge of this structure, which will give you full views of the rising sun, Broken Hill and the Outback beyond. Visit Broken Earth with skyline views across town and the Indian Pacific below. Visit Trades Hall, a heritage-listed building home to the city s first labour movement. Under the United we stand banner, the Union successfully championed the 35-hour working week and defeated conscription in Australia. ADELAIDE BAROSSA VALLEY (included in your journey) SHOPPING OPPORTUNITY Located 60 kilometres northeast of Adelaide, the Barossa Valley is a major wine producing region and tourist destination. Its cool summers and rainy winters are perfectly suited for red wine production, particularly Shiraz and richly flavoured Cabernet. You will leave the train in Two Wells to embark on your journey of the senses. Travel past flat farm lands before arriving at the picturesque rolling hills of the Barossa Ranges which overlook a colourful patchwork of vineyards, dotted with historic churches, stone buildings and cottages beckoning you to explore. The hospitality of the local community is memorable from the warm welcome of a cellar door, to the friendly hello and the many stories to be told by the locals, the Barossa Valley will welcome you.
