Classical Athens Pre-Cruise Option September 16 to 19, 2017 Delphi s fourth-century sanctuary of Athena Pronaia is most recognized by the towering, circular tholos at its center. Experience the ancient city unmatched in its contributions to the foundations of the Western world Athens, the birthplace of democracy. Explore the enduring grandeur encapsulated in the spectacular UNESCO World Heritage designated Acropolis, one of the wonders of the world and an ancient hilltop citadel that symbolizes the Golden Age of Greece. Visit the perfectly proportioned Parthenon, a graceful example of Doric architecture and the most famous temple in all of Greece, dedicated to Athena patron goddess of the city of Athens. Conceived by Pericles and built by architects Iktinos and Kallikrates, the Parthenon s visual harmony is the perfect result of their ingenious methods: all of its seemingly straight lines are actually curved to evoke a sense of immaculate order. In the Acropolis Museum, see incredible archaeological treasures and artifacts uncovered at the site of the Acropolis ranging from the Bronze Age to Byzantine Greece, including fragments of the Elgin Marbles. Explore the colorful Plaka, a village-like neighborhood and the oldest section of Athens. During a full-day excursion, walk through the mystical UNESCO World Heritage site of Delphi, spectacularly located amidst the soaring cliffs of Mount Parnassus and overlooking the gleaming waters of the Gulf of Corinth. 12/01/16-1

Travel through the traditional mountain village of Arachova to enjoy panoramic views of surrounding olive groves and scenic countryside. Lion Gate the imposing, monolithic entrance where two carved lions convey the great power and authority to all who enter. Visit the ancient, archaeological UNESCO World Heritage site of Tiryns, an extraordinary hilltop fortress occupied before the Bronze Age and one of the most important centers of the Mycenaean world between 1400 and 1200 B.C., and according to Homer s works, is believed to have been built by Cyclopes the mythical one-eyed giants from Lycia. Spend time in the picturesque fishing port of Nafplio, Greece s first modern capital and widely considered the most beautiful city in the country. Located on the Gulf of Argos, Nafplio s winding avenues, charming squares and medieval architecture encapsulate Greece s rich and storied history.

u 3 Corinth s imposing sixth-century Temple of Apollo is one of the oldest stone temples in Greece. Explore Epidaurus, the most celebrated healing center of the classical world. In its UNESCO World Heritage-designated Sanctuary of Asklepios, see the imposing 14,000 seat theater that was lost during antiquity and remained undiscovered until the 19 th century, rendering it the most intact ancient theater in the world still in use today.
