Her continued support has been invaluable. Thanks Ellen.. N.J. RETREADS MOTORCYCLE CLUB News and Recap 1 3 4 5 6 Members, I hope everyone is enjoying the Fall riding season. It s no secret that this is the weather motorcycle riders love. Our Wednesday rides are still drawing many riders (usually 20-30 members) and we had a record setting Sunday ride on 9/18. Sam Beloff led a ride to the Crab House In St. Michael s Maryland. He had 24 bikes and 32 members enjoyed a beautiful day and a great meal. I had to expand the pic below just to get everyone in it!! Sam has another ride on October 30th. The annual Fall Foliage Ride, 2016. I will have a write-up and some pictures in our next newsletter. Another great ride took place in 8 states. The 2016 Fall Color Tour led by Al Swiger. We were on many unnamed twisty roads that rival the Dragon s Tail and as well as the Devil s Whip and Copperhead. There were 10 riders who made the trek with Al. Although the fall colors were mostly absent from the trip, everyone enjoyed the road choices and the weather (6 of 8 days). There were a couple of unexpected detours that we handled easily with the help of Jeff DiStefano. Nice to know we have very capable back-up. Hats off to all the riders whose motorcycle experience and friendship made for a great trip. Plans are underway for the 2017 Fall Color Tour. We may tweak the dates a bit to ensure we see the color change. Our senior ride leader Stan Ware would like to pass on a note to some of our members. THANKS My heartfelt thanks for the many kind phone calls, e-mails, texts, cards, and visits from my Retread Biker friends as I recovered from knee replacement surgery and subsequent unpleasant health complications. The knee surgery went well. An adverse reaction to a pain medication drug, however, delayed my full recovery for several months. I'm happy to report all my systems are now GO and after a few weeks of Wednesday "practice", I returned to "full duty" on Wednesday, October 12th. The many communications from you all were so helpful and most appreciated during my recuperation. Thank you everyone! Stan Ware December Birthdays... The Brighter side...that is, the Back Side I have been at our Wednesday and Sunday breakfasts and talked to a handful of our newer club members. After a brief explanation that the XL on my hat doesn t relate to the size of our members, I was asked about our Retreads Crest. Since we have added over 30 members to the club in the past 18 months, I thought it would be a good idea to publish this article on the meaning of its design. About the Retreads Crest The SHAPE of the Retread Crest was taken from a U.S. Navy award presented for that which is considered to be the best! The CHIEF - is a field of GOLD with the name RE- TREADS in BLACK thereon. It denotes those Golden Years Over Forty. The name RETREADS is obvious; we have reached an age where a "retread" has become necessary! The BAND SINISTER - is BLACK and BLUE and slants upward from left to right across the field. It signifies the Black and Blue marks that we have all acquired while learning to ride. The UPPER SINISTER field is split, half being RED with a pair of Rampant Stallion Heads in place and half being BLACK. The RED half of the Upper Sinister field represents valor and the blood that we have shed. The Rampant Stallions which appear so proud represent the strength and stamina of the Retreads. As a pair, they indicate that we work together as a team. The BLACK half of the Upper Sinister field is for the mourning of our club s departed brothers and sisters. The LOWER DEXTER field is WHITE with the Roman Numerals "XL" and the word "PLUS" beneath; both in RED. WHITE symbolizes our purity of mind and thoughts, and also the color of our face in that first tight curve! The RED Roman Numerals "XL" and the word "PLUS" designate the age of Forty and Over, which one must be to become an official member of the Retreads...and as everyone knows, life really does begin at Forty. A BLUE OVERBAR may also be placed above the field of GOLD, upon which the name of the State or Provincial Chapter in which the wearer resides is written in WHITE. WE...the RETREADS...wear this CREST with PRIDE. It designates us as members of a select group that enjoys a wonderful sport, good times, many laughs and miles of open road. The Retread "Crest" and symbol "XL Plus" and "XL+" are Registered Insignias and Trademarks in the United States of America and Canada. New Jersey Retreads Jim & Andi Wells 362 Beachwood Drive Galloway, NJ 08205 609-748-2310 Have a Happy Thanksgiving also.
