It is the aim of TRAIN TIMES to provide information to enhance your journey. TRAIN TIMES is a compilation of all rail passenger public transport services in Australia and New Zealand. TRAIN TIMES is mainly compiled from the public timetables issued by the various Australian and New Zealand passenger train operators. TRAIN TIMES overcomes the all-too-common difficulty of obtaining current copies of these, either because of non-availability or distance from source. TRAIN TIMES also has the advantage of presenting all information in a uniform format. TRAIN TIMES will be useful to all travellers, but is especially prepared with the interests of railway enthusiasts in mind. Additional information such as distances, heights and interesting line features are added. Also added, for additional interest, are non-stop passing times of trains where known. Information given is the best available from the various sources, but this does mean that the comprehensiveness varies between different lines. All long-distance trains are included. Most Suburban services are summarised. Within each category (long-distance rail, suburban rail, railway bus), timetables are generally arranged north to south and east to west. x

Non-rail transport is included where it uses fixed infrastructure: Brisbane s Busways, Sydney s T-Way, Adelaide s O-Bahn, Auckland s North Shore Busway and Wellington s Trolley Buses. Corrections and suggestions relating to TRAIN TIMES are welcome, and should be sent to the compiler at abvi@iinet.net.au or 43 Lowanna St, Braddon ACT 2612. Happy travelling! TRAIN TIMING Please bear in mind that times in small typeface are of non-stop trains. Trains do not stop where times are indicated by small typeface. Train stops are indicated by the more usual larger typeface. Many passengers like to track the progress of their journeys, and it is for their benefit that this information where known is included. Sometimes working times vary slightly on different days. In these cases, the arbitrary decision has been made to select Tuesday times. UPDATES TRAIN TIMES will generally be reissued when significant alterations to services occur. Experience indicates that annual publication is likely. Another good way to keep up-to-date with timetable alterations is through membership of the Australian Timetable Association. See its excellent web site at www.autta.org.au or contact its membership officer at Unit 9, 26-30 Linda St, Hornsby NSW 2077 or volvob10m007@hotmail.com.au DISCLAIMER The information contained in TRAIN TIMES is privately compiled and is not issued by the railway operators. No guarantees of times or services are given or implied. Furthermore, please bear in mind that schedules often change. The compiler is not responsible for the consequences of changes or inaccuracies. xi

SUBURBAN SUMMARY TIMETABLES Where the frequency of Interurban and Suburban services are hourly or better, full timetables would take a disproportionate amount of space and are not necessary. Therefore these services are summarised rather than given in full. The summaries do not necessarily include every unusual working. A full list of stations for each line is provided and then a summary along these lines: Mon-Fri: 455 to 005. Peak: frequent, Day: 15 to Raymondtown, 30 beyond, Evening: 40. This means that on a Mondays to Fridays trains leave the first station in the station list (usually the principal station of the city) starting at 455 and continuing until 005. During the Peak period, trains run frequently. During the day between the peaks, trains run every 15 minutes as far as Raymondtown, and at a frequency of every 30 minutes beyond that location. In the evening, trains run at a frequency of every 40 minutes. The times in the summaries are always taken from the first station in each line list. In addition, to give an idea of running times, one sample train is given. Usually, this is the first train with a standard operating pattern departing from the City after 900. BUSES The timetables of railway-operated or railway-franchised buses are included. Sometimes these supplement train services in these cases, they are included with the appropriate train timetable. Sometimes they operate in other areas these have separate timetables. Please note the bus timetables are summarised: they do not include every stopping location, nor every variation of route. Sometimes buses stop at the railway station and in the town centre. In these cases, only the times at the railway station are given. The State Rail Authority of New South Wales franchises a large network of buses, operated by private operators. This network, like NSW Train Link s rail services, extends into the ACT, Queensland and Victoria. Similarly, V/Line of Victoria franchises a large network, also operated by private operators. This network extends into NSW, the ACT and SA. The south-west of Western Australia is served by a network operated directly by TransWA (formerly the Western Australian Government Railways). There are a few railway-franchised bus services in Queensland. The few railway bus routes in Queensland are placed with the appropriate longdistance country train timetables. The significant railway bus networks in NSW, Victoria and WA follow the rail timetables in separate sections in their respective States. In all cases, through ticketing is provided. The services are designed to connect with rail services, which provide the main portion of journeys. xiii
