Page 2 WindowSeat s patent-pending technology predicts the location of all commercial flights in the continental U.S. based on historical flight path data between your departure and arrival airports. With this highly interactive application, you can track your flight, recalculate your remaining flight time and flight position, and learn more about key landmarks and geographic areas you re flying over.
Page 3 Preliminary Setup and Precautions Prior to using WindowSeat in-flight for the first time, you should perform a test flight while connected to the internet to familiarize yourself with WindowSeat s features. Authenticating with Social Networks You will NOT be able to share via Facebook or Twitter if you have not logged in prior to taking off. You only need to login once, as WindowSeat will keep your authentication information for all flights from then on. Complete logins on the ground with an established internet connection by performing a test flight and following the instructions provided in Points of Interest and Sharing. If you would like to log out of Facebook or Twitter, tap Information in the Main Map view. Then, tap Logout of Social Networks and then Yes.
Page 4 Support If you ever have any questions or issues with WindowSeat, you can contact support at helpdesk@windowseatapp.com Adjusting Flight Speed, Duration and Path WindowSeat provides the most accurate flight position based on historical flight path data. While it also allows for in-flight adjustments based on information received by flight crew or observed terrain/points of interest, it is not recommended to adjust this information. Use these features sparingly and only when necessary. Try not to perform any adjustments during the first 20 minutes of the flight.
Page 5 Flight Setup 1) Tap Set Flight. 2) To enter your departure location, tap Departure in the Set Flight screen. 3) Type your departure location into the search bar. You can enter a city, airport name or airport code. For instance, if flying out of New York s La Guardia airport, you can enter New York, La Guardia, or LGA.
Page 6 4) When your departure location displays on the screen, tap the correct location to select your departure location and return to the Set Flight screen 5) To enter your arrival location, tap Arrival in the Set Flight screen and repeat steps 3 and 4. 6) When you have entered your departure and arrival locations, the Set Flight will now look as it does below.
Page 7 7) Tap Update to update the airtime data. NOTE: Tap Update just prior to boarding your flight to provide the most accurate airtime data. Once Update is tapped, you will not be able to update airtime again for 2 hours. Update only works with a network connection. 8) When the cabin doors have closed, set your device to Airplane mode in Settings and then turn off your device. 9) Note the exact takeoff time as accurately as possible. Takeoff time is when the plane actually leaves the ground. For best results, use a watch or stopwatch. 10) When the cabin crew informs passengers that electronic devices may be turned back on, turn on your device and return to WindowSeat. Tap Start Flight.
Page 8 11) Select how long ago your flight departed. WindowSeat will display the actual takeoff time at the top of the screen. 12) Tap Done to begin tracking your flight and view the Main Map View.
Page 9 In-Flight Controls and Information Main Map View Once you have properly setup your flight, the Main Map View displays your flight path as a orange line. The Main Map View uses common controls, including but not limited to: dragging your finger across the screen to navigate the map, pinch-tozoom, and double tapping a location to zoom in, double tapping with two fingers to zoom out To locate your plane and return to maximum zoom, tap Current Position.
Page 10 WindowSeat displays the flight-time remaining at the top of the screen. The circle to the left of the time remaining provides a visual representation of flight time. The green ticks through seconds like the second hand on a clock. The white section inside of the green represents time flown as a percentage like a pie chart. To display additional flight information including Miles Traveled and Speed, tap the Airplane.
Page 11 Points of Interest and Sharing WindowSeat displays points of interest as red dots in the Main Map View. To set which points of interest appear as red dots, tap Info. In the Settings screen, use the touch toggle switches to turn different categories of points of interest either On or Off. When finished with adjusting the settings, tap Done to save settings and return to the Main Map View.
Page 12 To view information on a point of interest, tap the corresponding red dot in the Main Map View to display the Info screen. NOTE: Points of interests are not available during the first and last 10 minutes of any flight. Furthermore, if your airplane is directly over a point of interest, you may not be able to select the point of interest. Simply wait a few minutes until your plane has passed the point of interest. When finished reading the information on a point of interest, tap Done to return to the Main Map View.
Page 13 To share that you have seen a specific point of interest, view the Wikipedia page on the point of interest or adjust the Settings from the Info screen, tap Action. To share, tap Share and then either Facebook or Twitter. NOTE: Users can share even without an internet connection. The next time a connection is available, WindowSeat will send the pending items. To view further information on the point of interest, tap View on Wikipedia. To display the Settings screen (reviewed above), tap Settings. NOTE: View on Wikipedia requires an internet connection. Wikipedia may be viewed before or after a flight or with in-flight wifi.
Page 14 In-Flight Adjustments NOTE: NOTE: For best results, use these features sparingly and only when necessary. Try not to perform any in-flight adjustments during the first 20 minutes of your flight. To adjust your position or airtime, first tap on your airplane in the Main Map view and then tap Adjust.
Page 15 Use the slider control to change your position and increase/decrease flight speed and duration. Tap Apply when complete.
Page 16 To adjust the actual flight path, tap Choose Path. NOTE: If there is only one possible flight path, the Choose Path option will not be available. Most of the time, you will be on the Most Traveled flight path. Tap a different route and then view the Main Map view to determine if the new flight path meets your desired adjustments. Repeat as necessary.
