AUSTRALIA CHINA BUSINESS COUNCIL QUEENSLAND EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBERS 2017-18 President Stephen Abbott Vice President Michael Choi Representative to the ACBC National Board Michael Wadley Treasurer Johanna Roche Stephen is a Partner and China expert at KPMG. He has over 20 years experience in International Business, Migration, Energy and Natural Resources. He specialises in working collaboratively to develop long-term partnerships with overseas investing companies, specifically focussing on Chinese clients. Stephen holds a number of Board positions and is actively involved in many aspects of international investment in the Australian landscape including specialised operational advice for clients. Michael has been a director of numerous private and public companies in Australia including AEC Australia, Belle Projects and the ASX listed Dongfang Modern Agriculture Holding Group. Michael was the first Asian-Australian to be elected into the Queensland Parliament and held office for almost 12 years. He was the Assistant Minister for a multitude of portfolios including Mines and Energy, Natural Resources, Trade and Multicultural Affairs. He is a qualified, Australian trained, professional Project Manager and Engineer with over 30 years of experience in development management, design and construction management. He has been an Honorary Ambassador for Brisbane for 30 years and was also appointed an Honorary Ambassador for the City of Redland. He has been made an Honorary Citizen of the City of Shenzhen in China, a sister city of Brisbane. Michael is actively developing business between Australia and China. Principal, Wadley Business Consulting Shanghai. Based in Shanghai for more than 15 years, Michael draws on his 30 years of experience in corporate and legal advisory services to facilitate business opportunities between Australia and China in a wide range of sectors. Michael was until recently an Independent Non-Executive Director of Australian listed and Tasmanian based food business Bellamy's. He is a registered foreign lawyer in China and Hong Kong and has been the China Managing Partner of two major international law firms. Michael has served 3 terms on the Board of the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai Principal of Johanna Roche & Associates. Johanna is a non-executive Director of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Queensland, Handball Australia and a number of private companies. Johanna is a fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, a Member of the Tax Institute of Australia and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Johanna is a former partner of PwC Australia.

Executive Committee Members David Lyons Nussara Smith Ben James Partner, Herbert Smith Freehills. David has extensive experience advising clients on transactional, advisory/regulatory and corporate matters (particularly in the financial services arena). David has acted for a number of Chinese clients in relation to their investment in Australia and in other countries. David has served or continues to serve as a board or committee member of a number of Asian business councils and associations including the ACBC Qld since 2005 and was previously on the National Board of ACBC. He was formerly on the Lord Mayor s Brisbane-Shenzhen Sister City & Asia Pacific Sister Cities Summit Committees. David is a Fellow of the Queensland Institute of Medical Research for all the work he did in China raising funds for Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma and currently sits on the Boards of Diving Australia and the Brisbane Powerhouse. Nussara was the CEO of ACBC s QLD Branch for 3 years from 2014-2017. Under her leadership, the profile and capability of the ACBC in QLD was greatly enhanced and the Branch was recognized as a fast growing and highly successful bilateral business chamber. Prior to ACBC, Nussara was a senior executive with over 20 years experience in Trade and Investment Queensland, the Queensland Government's trade and investment agency. She has extensive experience in providing advice to government and businesses on trade and investment strategies with Asia. In her former role as the Director for the Asia Region, she was responsible for managing the Queensland Government s international networks in Asia including its China operations. She was also a Queensland Trade and Investment Commissioner in Osaka, Japan and Manager for the South-East Asia region. She holds a Master s degree in Asian studies from The University of Queensland. Ben is the Senior Airline Development Manager for Brisbane Airport Corporation. He works with the airlines of North Asia to develop new and better air services connecting Brisbane to the world. Ben has been with Brisbane Airport since 2005, including two years on exchange working at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in the Netherlands, a part owner Brisbane Airport. Through his roles developing air services, Ben has worked with in partnership with a range of tourism organisations including Tourism and Events Queensland, Tourism Australia, Visit Scotland, Tourism Ireland, Netherlands Board of Tourism and Conventions, Auckland Tourism and the South Pacific Tourism Organisation. Ben has been a guest lecturer in the University of Queensland and James Cook University s tourism programmes and in the Masters of Destination Management programme at the National School of Tourism and Transport, the University of Breda in the Netherlands. He holds a Bachelor of Tourism from the University of Canberra and a Graduate Diploma in Management from The University of Melbourne.

She has accumulated a wealth of experience in dealing with Asian clients and has previously worked for Bank of China (in China), Westpac (in New Zealand and Australia), and ANZ (in Australia). She is a Co-author NZ, A piece of Jade in the South Pacific, published in China, 1999; Co-translator New Zealand Education Guide NZ 1995. She is also an Ambassador of Brisbane Lord Mayor s Charitable Trust; Vice Chairman of Australia-China Chamber of CEO Inc; Honorary advisor of Australia Queensland Fujian Association and Development Advisor of Queensland North Western Chinese Federation Director, KPMG. Bert has over 20 years experience providing professional services in tax, accounting, business advisory and migration areas to many inward Chinese investors in Queensland. His clients are in the energy & natural resources, property development, airlines, and banking industries. Bert holds qualifications as a Masters of Professional Accounting, and is a Member of the Chartered Accountants in Australia and New Zealand and a Registered Migration Agent. William is the Director of China Desk at PwC s Brisbane Office and prior to this he was the State Manager of Bank of China, Brisbane Branch. He has over 20 years experience in International Business, Corporate Finance, Credit Risk Management and Business Development. He is now focusing on developing long-term partnerships with inbound Chinese investing companies. William has significant experience in assisting Chinese inbound multinationals, including assisting to look for potential investment projects, to design and optimize their investment structure, to set up local subsidiary and to establish networks with local governments and communities.

Mark Couchman Sheldon Brady Brodie Paul Mark is Director, Resources Energy & Infrastructure at ANZ. He is a career banker, with over 15 years experience spanning multiple geographies including Europe and Asia. Since joining ANZ's Natural Resources Group in 2005, Mark has expanded ANZ's banking and finance capabilities and relationships to the resources industry in Queensland and in PNG. Mark's responsibilities include the structuring of debt facilities and expanding relationships for both his existing resources client base and with new clients to ANZ. Prior to joining ANZ, Mark spent 3 years in London with ABN Amro, as a Senior Capital Analyst responsible for management of the balance sheet and allocation of capital for the group s Institutional clients. Mark started his banking career in 2000, as a Commercial Banking graduate at Commonwealth Bank. He holds a Bachelor of Business (Management), Graduate Certificate in Finance and Masters of Business Administration from QUT. Sheldon is Managing Director of an ASX listed entity specialising in anti-counterfeit & brand / consumer engagement technologies. He has over 25 year experience in Structured & Asset Finance, Natural Resources, Financial Markets, Agriculture, Technology & Marketing. He is also Managing Director of Business Growth Advisory, a Management Consulting firm specialising in developing Strategic Alliances, Revenue Growth, Export Advisory, Sales & Marketing of brands / products globally. Sheldon has experience working across Australia as well as in London, the EU, China & Asia. He has extensive networks having run the Professional Services portfolio for a leading Australian bank predominately dealing with the Accounting, Legal & Adviser segments. In addition, he also has an Agricultural background having been an accredited Primary Producer & Breeder (beef), Qualified Meat Grader (Ausmeat), held a Non-Packer Export License (MLA) & was instrumental in establishing high quality Australian beef brands into the Chinese market back in 2005/6 - that relationship / business still operates successfully today based out of Shanghai. Brodie has spent most of his life in Asia, growing up in Hong Kong, he began working in mainland China with a Princeton University fellowship in Dalian and then studied at Fudan University Shanghai. He later lived and worked in Shanghai for 10 years firstly with Dun & Bradstreet then as a partner in Compradores.com, an online import-export company. Returning to raise a family in Australia he worked with the Queensland Government in China Trade and Investment roles. He is co-author of China: The New Long March (Qingdao Publishing House/ Weldon International), an award-winning coverage in text and photos of China s massive development of the western regions. Currently Brodie is Director of Partnerships for Australia China Business News ( 澳华财经在线 ) Australia's premiere Chinese language business newswire service. He also consults for companies looking to implement Chinese language media communications and investor relations programs.

Ex-officio Representatives Derrek Brown Toni Brownie David Wise Derek Brown, Director of DFAT s Queensland State Office. He has served in DFAT in a number of policy and corporate positions in Canberra, most recently as Director of the Consular Information Section, which manages the Smartraveller travel advisories. Derek has served in Japan on three occasions, in Turkey, and most recently as Counsellor (Economic) at the Australian High Commission in Port Moresby, PNG. Derek graduated with a Bachelor s Degree in Modern Asian Studies from Griffith University in Brisbane and Nanzan University in Nagoya, Japan. He also graduated with a Master of Literary Studies in Japanese from the University of Queensland. Toni, General Manager International Operations Division, Trade and Investment Queensland, is responsible for managing TIQ s 15 overseas offices. Toni joined TIQ from City of Gold Coast, as Manager of Economic Development where she led the team that delivered some of the city s most significant portfolios, including Economic Development, International Trade and Investment, City Marketing, and Tourism. She was also responsible for delivering Trade 2018, the business program associated with the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018. Prior to joining City of Gold Coast, Toni was COO for Recover Canterbury, a post-earthquake business recovery organisation established after the Christchurch earthquakes. Toni also spent 15 years with the Canterbury Development Corporation, where she held various roles, including General Manager of Strategy and Planning, Industry Development Manager, and Business Services Manager. Toni holds business qualifications from the Christchurch College of Education and the New Zealand Institute of Management. David Wise works as a Trade Adviser in Austrade s Food and Agribusiness Team advising Australian businesses in the agricultural sector on issues relating to exporting. David s international experience includes working for Trade and Investment Queensland in China conducting market research and business development activities in the food and beverage sector. Prior to this David also worked for the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources for nine years as a Quarantine Inspector based in Brisbane. David holds tertiary qualifications in Commerce and Chinese from the University of Queensland.
