Page 3 January 14 Day 3. Your Adventure in Africa kicks off today! Arrive Johannesburg Int l Airport by 10:00 AM for our mid - morning transfer to our first lodging the fabulous Shepherd s Tree Game lodge at Pilanesberg National Park. (Approximate Driving Time: 2.5 Hrs) Daily Itinerary Guests arriving on the 13th in Johannesburg will enjoy breakfast at the hotel before checking out. Guests will meet at customs or at the hotel and will be escorted to our private Motorcoach for transfer to the lodge. On arrival, guests will be met by the Rangers for check in. Our group will have lunch and time at leisure before the late afternoon game drive in search of the Big 5 (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo). Each game drive usually lasts about three hours, with a sundowner s stop at sunset and a coffee stop in the morning. It is advisable to bring jackets and sweaters along, even in summertime, as the lodges are at high altitude (and hence non-malarial!) Upon return from the afternoon game drive, dinner will be enjoyed in the Lodge dining room at the lodge, serving true African cuisine. Pilanesberg National Park The Pilanesberg Game Reserve lies inside a 1300 million-year- old volcanic complex and offers a wide variety of beautiful landscapes. Pilanesberg is home to a great diversity of plants and animals, including the Big 5, wild dog and 360 species of bird. Page 4 Pilanesberg National Park and Game Drives No two game drives are exactly alike, but each is hosted and escorted by experienced guides in comfortable vehicles. You will marvel at the diverse wildlife living across this 100,000 acre protected zone. Day 4, January 15: Shepherd's Tree Game Lodge, Pilanesberg National Park Day Itinerary Your immersion into Africa continues early as guests head out on a morning game drive between 5:30 and 6:00 AM, while the animals are still active. We return to the lodge for breakfast around 9 AM. Expect great game viewing in open vehicles especially converted to maximise comfort and viewing potential. Your personal game ranger will provide insightful and valuable information about the fauna and flora whilst on drive. The remainder of the day guests can relax with a book on the deck or choose to participate in the many activities offered on the reserve. Lunch will be at leisure at the lodge. Indulge in some sweet delicacies before departing for an afternoon game drive. Page 5 Day 5, January 16: Shepherd's Tree to SUN CITY The Palace of the Lost City (Three Nights) and Day 6, January 17: Today s Itinerary Guests will enjoy their final game drive in the Pilanesberg National Park, followed by breakfast and mid-morning check out, then a short 30 minute transfer to Sun City. The extraordinary Sun City Resort is internationally recognized as one of the ultimate African Experiences. On arrival at Sun City, guests will check into The Lost Palace Hotel and will have the remainder of the day at Leisure. Sun City Resort has something for everyone! Tonight, (January 16), we have included a welcome reception and private dinner at the Palace Hotel. You may recognize the surroundings from the recent movie Blended, starring Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler one of many filmed at the resort. If you haven t seen it, we highly recommend it! Set among 60 acres of remote South African wilderness, this sprawling complex built in the crater of an extinct volcano is a wonderland destination where opulence in the bush takes on new meaning. The Palace boasts interiors with hand-carved walls, bespoke furnishings and ceilings that depict a classic African landscape. Outside, the Valley of Waves, includes a 5,600-square-meter wave pool, waterslides, Sway Bridge and Botanical Garden trails. A sense of adventure prevails at the 18-hole Lost City Golf Course, which features a crocodile-filled pond. The Maze of the Lost City - Sun City, South Africa The largest permanent maze in the Southern Hemisphere, The Maze of the Lost City, will be the site of a late afternoon event for our group on January 17. Covering nearly half an acre, the Maze is accessed via a 100-metrelong suspension bridge from the Entertainment Centre, offering spectacular views of the resort. At the end of The Maze of the Lost City is the Pilanesberg Brewery Bar which offers a selection of ice-cold craft beers on tap. Wine and beer await you upon completion of your Maze Adventure.
Page 6 Day 7, January 18: The Lost Palace Ukutula Lion Park & Lodge http://lodge.ukutula.co.za/ Day Itinerary Breakfast is again served at the spectacular Crystal Court at the Palace Hotel at leisure. Today will be a day you will never forget! Today s full day tour to the amazing Ukutula Lion Park. While the property boasts a variety of antelope species, giraffe and zebra, and is also home to more than 130 different bird species, the highlight of your day will be an up close and personal visit with baby lion cubs. Known as the place of quiet, the lodge is nestled in lush bushveld where at night, the roar of adult lions can be heard for miles around. We ll divide up into smaller groups of eight to better experience the animals in the unique Ukutula environment. While we can t guarantee exactly which animals you will see, we know you will walk away with memories and photographs impossible to describe. The day includes a return trip to Ukutula, refreshments on arrival, lunch at the lodge, interaction with the young lions as well as baby cubs, a guided tour of the lions, cheetah, tiger, caracal and hyena as well as a guided bush walk with the lions. Guests will return to Sun City in the late afternoon for time and dinner at leisure. Dinner tonight is on your own at your choice of Sun City restaurants.
Page 7 Day 8, Jan 19: The Palace of the Lost City, Sun City to Capetown Day Itinerary After another spectacular buffet breakfast at the Crystal Court, we ll check out and transfer mid-morning to Johannesburg airport, where we ll board a two hour flight to Capetown. Table Bay Hotel, Cape Town (4 Nights) There s no finer place to stay in Capetown than the Table Bay Hotel, on the Victoria and Alfred (V&A) waterfront. After a short while to settle in and relax, we re planning a welcome reception at the Hotel, followed by dinner in one of the Hotel s restaurants. Cape Town Resting at the confluence of the Indian and Atlantic Ocean, sandwiched between the slopes of the iconic Table Mountain and the glistening sapphire waters of Table Bay, the exceptionally scenic city of Cape Town is in a class of its own. Some cities boast rich culture, vibrant nightlife, a cosmopolitan atmosphere and extraordinary architecture, while others boast breath-taking landscapes and extraordinary natural wonders. Cape Town is lucky enough to be blessed with all of these attractions and so much more. Page 8 Day 9: Jan 20 Table Bay Hotel, Cape Town Cape of Good Hope Tour An exciting day is in store! Today, we will explore the "Fair Cape, as no trip to South Africa is complete without taking in the spectacular views from the Cape Peninsula and Cape Point. Nothing compares to the absolute beauty and ruggedness of the Cape Peninsula, at the Southwestern-most tip of the continent. Guests will enjoy lunch during the excursion before returning to Cape Town in the afternoon. After lunch, leaving the reserve by way of the Simon's Town naval base and returning to Cape Town in the late afternoon. Tonight guests are on their own for dinner at leisure in Capetown. RSA Cape Point Tour Full Day including lunch - Cape Town This full-day tour includes a visit to the Cape Point Nature Reserve and Table Mountain. Follow the curves of the Atlantic coastline along magnificent Marine Drive, past the Twelve Apostles, all the way to the quaint fishing village of Hout Bay. Then wind your way towards the Cape Point Nature Reserve, hugging the spectacular cliff sides of Chapman s Peak Drive. Catch a ride up the funicular for a view of the place where the two oceans meet, then visit Boulders Beach for a viewing of the penguin colony. Cape Point Funicular The Flying Dutchman funicular takes visitors at Cape Point up to the lighthouse, where there is an outstanding view of the point and ocean. The funicular is named after a ghost ship whose destiny it is to sail the oceans forever. More information can be found at the museum, which also includes a fantastic gift shop! Admission to the National Park and your Funicular Ticket are included. Boulders Beach Boulders Beach in Simon s Town is ideal for kids as immense boulders shelter the cove from currents and large waves - but please always take care and don t touch the penguins!
Page 9 Day 10: Jan 21 Table Bay Hotel, Cape Town City Tour & Table Mountain Breakfast will be served at Table Bay Hotel at leisure. After yesterday s extensive guided tour, you ll enjoy today s famous Capetown Hop-on, Hop-off bus tour. Guests will receive tickets for the "Hop on Hop off bus. A ticket on the City Sightseeing bus allows access to all tours and takes guests directly to Cape Town's top attractions including the Table Mountain Cableway, V&A Waterfront and Camps Bay. Multiple tours and frequent service mean you re free to enjoy the city at your own pace. Tonight we ll enjoy an Italian & Seafood dinner at La Perla, in Sea Point where the group will enjoy the seaside view. Maintaining a retro design with 70s lights, carved chairs, original Italian upholstery and specks of orange here and there, La Perla has a variety of meal options and a good wine list, before returning to our Hotel. There are 11 bus stops, hop on and off as you like. The total tour duration (with no hop offs) is approximately 90 minutes. Skip the ticket queue at the Table Mountain Cableway (stop 7) as you ll already have your ticket to ascend the 1000 meter rotating cable car and if you d like, take a 2 KM hike on top of Table Mountain. Your ticket allows you to explore at your own pace! Day 11: Jan 22 Table Bay Hotel, Cape Town Wine Country Tour Breakfast will again be served at Table Bay Hotel at leisure, after which we ll depart for a relaxing Grape Escape Winelands Experience. We have included personalised Wine Tasting Experiences at 2 different wine estates (De Morgenzon Wine Estate and Jordan Wine Estate) with lunch at Delaire Wine Estate. After lunch guests will be transferred back to the hotel, en route stop in the Town of Stellenbosch for a unique shopping experience.
Page 10 Stellenbosch A blend of historical architecture, student life, epicurean delights and oak-lined avenues, Stellenbosch is a picturesque university town surrounded by mountains and vineyards. A walking tour of the town centre allows visitors to take in its beautifully preserved Cape Dutch and Victorian architecture, as well as the many enticing art galleries, craft shops, clothing boutiques and gift stores. Tonight, we ll have our farewell dinner at the TABLE BAY HOTEL, with time to pack our souvenirs! Day 12/13: Jan 23/24 FAREWELL to South Africa After breakfast at the hotel, we ll make arrangements for transfers to ultra-modern Capetown International Airport. Many guests will connect through Johannesburg, while others may travel via Europe or the Middle East. After check-out, guests will be transferred to allow two hours check-in for International Flights with Memories of a lifetime! Arrive back in the US on January 24.
