April 12th, 2012 Dear Member: The 2011-12 season is quickly coming to a close, and summer is fast approaching. Now is the time to start thinking ahead and making plans to get outside your box, clear your head and fill your imagination. Plan a little get away to get away from it all while getting yourself plugged into your industry this June at the Bowl Canada 2012 Annual General Meeting. OTTAWA - 2012 This year's industry gathering rolls into the nation's capital for a series of fun social times, educational seminars and frank business discussion. Of course, between it all, we'd be crazy not to stop and smell the Tulips... We're adjusting the schedule to take in the sights and sounds of Ottawa in June, the beautiful and picturesque city along the Rideau Canal... a must for every Canadian to visit and enjoy. Bowl Canada 2012 will see changes to our AGM's format. We will be concentrating less on "reports" and more on networking and learning together. There will also be a concerted effort to hear from you on items your Board has been working on. In the past your Board of Directors have met in the days leading up to the AGM, and then reported to the membership on motions approved at the pre-agm meeting. Well, we're doing it a little differently now... the Board will still meet pre-agm, but while those sessions will continue to be deliberative as your Board does its due-dilligence on preparing for decisions that affect our industry and businesses, the votes will not be taken until after the AGM so that each and every Board member will have an opportunity to hear from you, directly, on how the pending motions may affect your business and bottom line. Here's what you can expect out of your trip; Take in the Business sessions and get up to date on your industry on a national level Dive into some down-home seminars similar to the ones we had in Banff... real hands on training on a peer to peer basis We've re-engaged with Bruce Davis to deliver a couple of professional seminars on key topics for your business in today's society Take in our annual TRADE SHOW as our industry's suppliers join us and play their role in contributing to our future with new ideas and products for your business Share ideas with proprietors from all around our great country and take a few for yourself from several networking sessions Get a heads up on industry trends beyond our borders and before they reach us Southern Ontario reps can also take in their Provincial Annual Meeting as Bowl Ontario piggy-backs it's AGM meetings on with ours. Have your say on motions being deliberated by your Board so they can hear your opinions before the votes are taken and MUCH more over
BOWL CANADA 2012 Annual General Meeting & Trade Show Continued WHAT TO EXPECT As mentioned, Southern Ontario delegates get to take in their Provincial AGM which will run in concert with the national meetings. We are working on Workshops that will be a little more specific and down home than generic Seminars... touching on pointers and skills that you can easily put to work in your business right away, and others that will explain how to get the most out of the member benefits available to you. Additionally, 2 key seminars by Bruce Davis will be offered. Those of you who were in Toronto for the AGM in 2009 will remember Bruce's workshop then, and many of you will also know Bruce as the mind behind Kids Bowl Free. A great speaker and worker for the industry across North America, Bruce is pleased to join with us again just prior to his engagements at Bowl Expo in the days that follow. On the social side of things, we're going to get a little more casual as we celebrate our gathering with an offsite Welcome Reception, which will be in a CANADIANA theme, so help us celebrate the Beaver and all of Canada's bragging points... we are in Ottawa after all... our country, our capital, our way. We'll also have a fun night out at Absolute Comedy, one of North America's premier comedy clubs, and we'll have other fun options such as a tour of the nearby Parliament Buildings and a trip to Market Square for those who want to take in some of the street nightlife of Ottawa in June. For those who prefer otherwise, the Casino du Lac Leamy in Gatineau is a very short ride away as well. We'll also be continuing our recent tradition of the AGM Calcutta. Ticket order forms to get in on this popular bit of fun will be going out to all those who register for the AGM by the deadline date of May 8th. REGISTRATION Every Bowl Canada member centre can register up to two people at $80.ºº each plus GST/HST. Member centres registering more than 2 people to the AGM can register the 3rd, 4th or any additional persons at a registration fee of $100.ºº each plus GST/HST. Payment of the registration fee will entitle the individual to attend all the business sessions and seminars and participate in all the scheduled social functions at the hotel (except where additional tickets are required). The cost of all these activities normally runs well over $250.ºº per person, so it's really a great deal!! PLEASE SEND IN YOUR REGISTRATION FORM TO THE BOWL CANADA OFFICE BY MAY 8th. Of course you can always extend your stay and make a proper holiday of the trip. Airlines are regularly posting seat sales on the internet, so keep checking in for them. It's not as expensive a flight as you might think. I hope you are considering making the trip to Ottawa and the AGM. With Ontario and Quebec surrounding you, Ottawa seems a great way to recharge the batteries for the coming season while taking a few moments to smell the tulips and enjoy a personal holiday as well.
