Community-based Airport Watch Recruiting your community to strengthen your security program Who are these spotters? Aviations Enthusiasts Spotters are only one segment of the Airport Watch demographic Photographers (for personal collections websites, periodicals) Radio enthusiasts (listen to communications) Aircraft watchers They all love aircraft, all for different reasons 8
Facts about spotters All large airports have them They are there often, sometimes at odd hours They park in their cars for hours at a time Most are expert observers with keen attention to detail Some travel just to visit airports 9
Why are they at your airport? This is a hobby for them They record: aircraft types, airlines, registrations, flight numbers, cargo, etc. Their knowledge is not to be underestimated! They are connected to enthusiasts at other airports and exchange information 10
