GATWICK AND WANDSWORTH 1. THE FUTURE OF AVIATION 2. GATWICK S VISION 3. WHY GATWICK IS BEST FOR WANDSWORTH

THE TRANSFORMATION OF AVIATION Three current and future trends are transforming aviation: 1. Growth is being driven by Low-Cost Carriers 2. Hub-busting aircraft are game-changing for long haul travel 3. Rise of Middle East hubs and airlines is shifting the global centre of aviation THE UK MUST PLAN FOR THE AVIATION WORLD OF TOMORROW

GATWICK S VISION Two world class airports in London helping connect the UK to the world: Gatwick grows Heathrow improves Expansion at Gatwick can: Give passengers the choice they want Give the economy the growth we need Be fully privately financed Be delivered for fraction of the environmental impacts Gatwick plans are deliverable GATWICK DELIVERS BETTER VALUE FOR AIRLINES AND PASSENGERS

EXCELLENT TRANSPORT LINKS Already committed and funded improvements through Thameslink will transform rail services to Gatwick through London Bridge, taking pressure off the route to Victoria Longer trains and new rolling stock will double the number of seats through Gatwick by 2020 and nearly treble by 2035 There will be a train to central London every 2.5 minutes 30 minutes from Victoria, 28 minutes from London Bridge and 25 minutes from Clapham Junction Gatwick will be connected directly to 175 stations and more than 1,000 with one change Gatwick will connect to all major rail upgrades HS2 and Crossrail EXPANDING GATWICK MEANS LESS STRAIN ON THE SYSTEM, MORE CHOICE, AND LOWER AVERAGE JOURNEY TIMES

REBALANCING THE LONDON ECONOMY Expanding Gatwick will: Complete the compass of London s regeneration delivering growth to South London Deliver 100,000 catalytic jobs across the UK Drive business success right across London Create a growth corridor stretching down to the South Coast Increase competition and resilience in London s airport system Increase global connectivity for London s opportunity areas GATWICK PROVIDES A STRATEGIC SCALE OF OPPORTUNITY FOR SOUTH LONDON, LONDON AND THE SOUTH EAST

6 BENEFITS FOR WANDSWORTH RESIDENTS 1. Direct Employment Gatwick expansion will create 22,000 new jobs at the airport Clapham Junction is just only 25 minutes away from the airport, so these jobs are accessible to Wandsworth residents The jobs will cover a wide range of skills 25% will be managers and senior officials 24% will be elementary occupations EXPANDING GATWICK CREATES DIRECT EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR WANDSWORTH RESIDENTS

6 BENEFITS FOR WANDSWORTH RESIDENTS 2. Catalytic Jobs Gatwick expansion will deliver 100,000 catalytic jobs across the UK Research from Arup suggests that there will be 18,000 30,000 jobs created in the centre of London, including Wandsworth These jobs will be in the service industries e.g. public sector, healthcare, finance, tourism Wandsworth has a high proportion of residents from this sector WANDSWORTH RESIDENTS WILL BENEFIT FROM INCREASED EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES ACROSS LONDON

6 BENEFITS FOR WANDSWORTH RESIDENTS 3. Boosting Local Skills Gatwick will work with Wandsworth to boost local skills We will establish a 3.75 million apprenticeship fund 2,500 job opportunities will be created from the fund with grants of 1,500 given for each new apprenticeship Gatwick will work with Wandsworth Council in the delivery of the scheme GATWICK S APPRENTICESHIP FUND WILL HELP SECURE LONG TERM CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FOR WANDSWORTH SCHOOL LEAVERS

6. BENEFITS FOR WANDSWORTH RESIDENTS 4. Infrastructure Job creation from a second runway will require investment in infrastructure such as housing Gatwick has pledged a 46 million fund to support infrastructure Gatwick will work with Wandsworth council to ensure any infrastructure required as a result of expansion is compensated GATWICK WILL WORK WITH THE COUNCIL TO DELIVER IMPROVED INFRASTRUCTURE FOR WANDSWORTH

6 BENEFITS FOR WANDSWORTH RESIDENTS 5. Competition and choice Competition is the best way to increase choice - Heathrow expansion would create a monopoly Residents in Wandsworth will be able to choose which airport to travel from they will be able to fly to a greater number of destinations WANDSWORTH RESIDENTS WILL BENEFIT FROM GREATER CHOICE AND LOWER FARES

6. BENEFITS FOR WANDSWORTH RESIDENTS 6. Noise Expansion at Gatwick will bring the benefits, without any additional noise burden in Wandsworth If Heathrow expansion goes ahead, noise would affect around 840,000 people On the other hand, if it remains a two-way runway, its noise footprint will reduce to 460,000 people because of new quieter aircraft EXPANDING GATWICK WILL MEAN LESS AIRCRAFT NOISE FOR WANDSWORTH

CURRENT HEATHROW NOISE OVER WANDSWORTH Heathrow Flight Paths 10 November 2014 EXPANDING HEATHROW WILL MEAN MORE AIRCRAFT NOISE FOR WANDSWORTH

NOISE IMPACTS A STARK CHOICE R3 837,000 ppl Base - 456,000 ppl R2 37,000 ppl Base 9,500 ppl GATWICK IS THE ONLY DELIVERABLE OPTION

WHY GATWICK IS BEST FOR WANDSWORTH Gatwick can deliver at least the same economic benefits to Wandsworth, London and the UK, including direct and indirect jobs Gatwick will increase choice, reduce fares and enhance resilience in London s airport system Gatwick will enable the UK to adapt to changing trends in aviation Gatwick can do all of this without impacting nearly a million people with noise Gatwick has the best chance of actually being delivered
