DSCOVERY CENTRE PLEASE MND THE GAP! The Coffee Container & Tally Ho The unique history of our heritage railway comes to life in the awardwinning Train Story Discovery Centre. Our historic collection of locomotives, Victorian and Edwardian carriages and other rare rolling stock is kept under cover here, allowing visitors to explore and interact indoors and away from the elements. Train Story is perfect for engaging children; they will be learning while having fun. Train Story Discovery Centre is open every day between April and September and on operating days throughout March, October and December. Dressing up as train drivers, understanding how railways operated in the past and seeing how the Steam Railway itself was first established in the 1960s by a small group of enthusiasts. These stories are wonderfully illustrated with display panels and video presentations with authentic steam train sounds playing in the background. Discover many of the unique locomotives, wagons and carriages in the Railway s collection and if the doors are unlocked you are welcome to climb aboard and take a look inside. For some it will be an experience full of nostalgia, whilst for others it opens a window into the past. t s a fully interactive experience for everyone to enjoy. Visit the neighbouring Tally Ho, a beach hut carriage that was withdrawn in 1936 and then spent its days out at Thorness Bay as a holiday chalet. Today, it remains a beautifully preserved snapshot of 1950s life. During the summer months re-fuel at our Coffee Container. Originally a 1957 British Railways freight container, it now serves delicious coffee, freshly roasted here on the sland. 6 7
