Gite with Pool and beautiful grounds in the Limousin Summary Spacious gite with shared pool, set within an acre of enclosed grounds with fantastic countryside views, situated on the Limousin/Dordogne border. Description Our gite accommodation in Limousin is situated within the Perigord Regional National Park on the historic route of Richard the Lionheart. We are 35 minutes from Limoges airport with direct flights from many regional UK airports. If you are looking for a gite in the Dordogne, we are only 3km from the border, so ideally placed for exploring both regions! Barn gite has two double bedrooms, a very large open-plan living/dining area and it s own pretty patio area, with barbecue. Our gites are situated within an acre of fully enclosed grounds where you can find a lovely in-ground, fully terraced shared swimming pool with roman steps, where you can cool off in the hotter months. The pool area is equipped with a solar shower, sun loungers/umbrellas and pool alarm. The Limousin area of France is renowned for it s lakes and we are lucky to have four beautiful lakes within a 10 km radius of our property. Each lake has its own particular attractions, two of our favourites are the lakes at Bussiere Galant and Saint Hilaire.
The Saint Hilaire lake has a lovely beach area with diving board, water-slide and mini-golf plus a snack bar which is open in the summer holidays. The lake at Bussiere also has a swimming area with beach and snack bar and is found within Espace Hermeline a local facility which is fantastic for children and a great favourite with our customers. Here you can swim or boat in the lake, ride on the velo rail or the petite train for young children. For older children or adults, there is a zip wire over the lake, a bungee jump and a tree climbing adventure route. To the outskirts of Bussiere there is currently a new and exciting venture underway! Here you will soon find the first European elephant sanctuary, primarily aimed at providing a safe habitat for retired elephants from the circus or where they can no longer be accommodated in the zoo. The area will encompass over 70 acres of woodland habit and it is anticipated that the first elephant will be relocated there in Spring 2017. The local area also offers good walking routes, excellent roads for cycling and plenty of opportunities for fishing and bird-watching. Our local village of Ladignac-le-Long (3 km), has a leisure lake, a local bar and a few shops, including a bakery. Our nearest town, St-Yrieix-la-Perche (9 km) is where kaolin, the base ingredient for the renowned Limoges porcelain was discovered and has all the amenities you will need, including several large supermarkets, shops, banks, cinema/theatre and a lovely new water park/leisure centre. In addition, you are also ideally placed to visit some of the local towns and villages, such as Le Chalard on the historic route of Richard the Lionheart, once famous for it s gold mining activities it has a beautiful church which hosts a summer classical music and arts festival, Segur-le-Château, classified as one of the most beautiful villages of France, or the fantastic 12th Century fairy-tale Château at Jumilhac-le-Grand. The remarkable Lascaux cave paintings are a very popular attraction, as is the poignant town of Oradour-sur-Glane (just outside Limoges), which has been left untouched as a memorial to the 642 individuals massacred there by the Nazis in 1944. If you feel like a day in the City, nearby Limoges renowned for its Limoges porcelain has a good range of shops and restaurants. You can visit the aquarium, take in a museum or two, such as the limoges arts centre, or the ceramic, glass and porcelain museum. Or take a ride on the steam train which runs between Limoges and Ussel, through spectacular gorges and countryside. Two other towns, which are very attractive and well worth a visit are Perigueux, a lovely market town, with a good selection of shops and restaurants and Brantôme, a pretty little town situated on the river Dronne, where you can enjoy Kayaking and boat trips.
