Wednesday, 18 October 20:30 THE VOLUNTEERS OF TARRAGONA IN 1802 Conference on the history of the light infantry regiment known as the Volunteers of Tarragona which defended the city during the Siege of Tarragona in 1811. The event includes the presentation of remnants of the uniform they used to wear according to the regulations of 1802. Organized by: PROJECTE TARRAGONA 1800 Venue: Espai Turisme, c/ Major, 37 Approx. duration: 1 hour Language: Catalan/Spanish Thursday, 19 October and Friday, 20 October 18:00 AN AFTERNOON AT CASA CASTELLARNAU A themed visit to Casa Castellarnau in the year 1814, with a tour of the house, a talk on the family s history and, if we are fortunate enough, the chance to meet Mrs Castellarnau. This was a period full of misery and pain, but also a time of culture, tradition and progress towards the new Europe that was just taking its first steps. 18:00 A WALK AROUND THE DEFENSIVE WALL A guided tour of the defensive wall conducted by a squadron from the Urban Militia of Tarragona. We will visit the areas of Sant Dídac, Santa Bàrbara, Paborde, Sant Domènec and Sant Magí. Organized by: PROJECTE TARRAGONA 1800 Venue: Falsa Braga defensive wall. Main entrance gate to the Archaeological Walk. Approx. duration: 45 minutes SANT DÍDAC ZONE A space dedicated to recreating life in a typical Napoleonic encampment 11:00-14:00 and 17:00-19:00 NAPOLEONIC ENCAMPMENT Everyone present is welcome to visit the Bulwark of Sant Dídac, where there will be encampments representing the different Napoleonic groups invited to the event in representation of those that took part in the Peninsular War and the Siege of Tarragona. A congenial spot that will help to give a better idea about the personalities involved and their stories. In collaboration with: Napoleonic re-enactment groups taking part in the sessions

PABORDE ZONE A dedicated space for holding educational workshops for adults and children 12:00 LEARNING FROM THE MILITIA. CARD GAMES OF 1800 An educational workshop based on reproductions of the playing cards that people used to play with in the late XVIII and early XIX centuries. Given by members of the Urban Militia of Tarragona. 13:00 LEARNING FROM THE MILITIA. FLINTS AND CARTRIDGES A workshop for learning, based on originals and reproductions, how the caplock flints of firearms were made and how the cartridges were made and loaded. Given by members of the Urban Militia of Tarragona. 18:00 LEARNING FROM THE MILITIA. WRITING WITH A QUILL A workshop for learning how people used to write in those times at least, those who knew how to write! Given by members of the Urban Militia of Tarragona. All the workshops last approximately 30 minutes. SANT DOMÈNEC ZONE STRATEGY AND BOARD GAMES 11:00-14:00 and 17:00-19:00 Board games on the Napoleonic Wars. The aim of the SI VIS PACEM, PARA LUDUM Association is to introduce the general public to a series of board games on most famous battles and sieges during the Napoleonic Wars. Apart from the fun of playing, it also gives people a much deeper insight into our contemporary history. In collaboration with: Si Vis Pacem, Para Ludum Association HISTORY AND EDUCATION 10:30-14:00 and 17:00-20:00 BOOKS IN ACTION An area dedicated to books, where the Booksellers Association of Tarragona offer their entire collections to give a better insight into the history of the city and its governance during this period. Books for adults, for children and for young people. Historical novels, essays, plays, military history and the history of this hugely important Napoleonic period will be available to all. Catalan/Spanish STORIES IN LA SOLANA Situated in some of the most iconic locations of the defensive wall, the great artillery battery of the Bulwark of Sant Domènec being one example you can have a convivial time getting to know the different participants of the sessions while recreating the historical events and units that took part in the Peninsular War in Tarragona.

12.00 THE GRAND ARMÉE AND TARRAGONA IN 1800 An informative talk on the Napoleonic troops who besieged Tarragona in the Siege of 1811. 13:00 THE TROOPS OF FERDINAND VII AND TARRAGONA IN 1800 An informative talk on the forces who defended Tarragona during the Siege of 1811. Approx. duration: 30 min. Catalan HISTORY IN ACTION This is the moment you have all been waiting for. With all the participants of the past few days, we will recreate a small battle just like many battles our ancestors were involved in during the Siege of Tarragona in 1811. 19:00 WORKSHOP INSTRUCTIONS An educational workshop open to anyone who is interested in experiencing a battle in first person. Approx. duration: 30 min. 19:30 TO ARMS, WE RE UNDER ATTACK! From the Bulwark of Sant Domènec to the entrance to the Falsa Braga defensive wall, an educational battle between the invading troops, the French, and the city s defenders during the Siege of Tarragona in 1811. This will involve all the re-enactment groups invited to the VI Tarragona 1800 Sessions. Note: Participation is open to the general public, even children, as real powder is not used in the firearms to avoid any burns to participants. Approx. duration: 45 min. OLD QUARTER OF TARRAGONA HISTORY - HERITAGE - AWARENESS To learn, you also have to walk, see and listen. We invite you to get to know Tarragona from a unique and different perspective the Cathedral bell-tower. 11:00 A BIRD S EYE VIEW OF THE CITY OF TARRAGONA IN 1811 A guided tour of the historic spaces of the Cathedral and a climb up to the bell-tower, where you can make out some of the historical buildings of that period which are still with us today having survived the sacking by the French troops on 19 August 1813.
