The long-awaited adaptation is preceded by David Suchet on the Orient Express: A Masterpiece Special, a one-hour special aboard the present-day iconic train. But for the first 94 years of our existence, the Fourth wasn t an official holiday at all. The Declaration of Independence itself sat untended in a dusty archive for 150 years. So how did Independence Day become the holiest day on our secular calendar? In this hour, the History Guys explore the origins and curiosities of July Fourth. Guests include historian Pauline Maier, July 4th chronicler James Heintz and historian David Blight. BackStory --Independence Daze: A History of July 4th airs Sunday, July 4 at 10 p.m. on AM1370FM-HD91.5-2 1370 Forum & AM 1370 Specials Radio Lab: Who Are You? airs Sunday, July 11 at 10 p.m. This hour centers around a chilling question: can you ever really know the people around you? Even those most dear to you--your mother, your child, your loved one--can you ever really know what they are thinking, feeling, or experiencing? Or is it all just a leap of faith? In this episode of Radiolab, we talk to neuroscientists, primatologists, zookeepers, actors, and dog owners, who are all trying to get inside another s mind. StoryCorps Rochester airs Sundays, July 18 - August 1 at 10 p.m. StoryCorps is one of the largest oral history projects of its kind, with millions of listeners on public radio and the web. Last July the mobile recording booth was in Rochester during the city s 175th anniversary celebration, and more than 200 people shared their stories. Over the past year we ve heard these stories during Morning Edition and All Things Considered; now we bring them together for one last re-telling. Here are some of the stories you ll hear: 718 Sister Rosemary Burgio and Sister Maria Mariani talk about how the city has changed in the last 100 years; Donna Proietti shares with husband Tom her experiences with breast cancer; Barbara Blaisdell talks about why she has been portraying Susan B. Anthony for 20 years, and why Laotian-American artist Pepsy Kettavong s sculptures inspired by American history. 725 Kristian Englert confesses how he froze his tongue to the flagpole; Jacquie Archer tells her son David Skinner that she grew up with radio and radio grew up with her; Deborah Murray explains why she donated a kidney to her best friend s husband; and we meet Charles Price, the first African American to serve on the Rochester Police Force. 81 We meet Jean Tischer, the grand niece of women s right pioneer Susan B. Anthony; Jeanne Corcoran recounts the1972 Hurricane Agnes; Emeterio Otero, Executive Dean at the Damon City Campus of MCC, talks about coming of age in Buffalo during the Civil Rights movements; and Betty Miller, who just celebrated her one-hundred-first birthday.
