From our President~~~~~~~~~ The Car Guy Tech Session at MB of Lancaster March 2006 Hello everyone! My name is Marty Rexroth, and I have been serving as your vice president for several terms now. You may know me as the tall guy that organizes the Technical Sessions. Our current president, Robert Byrne, has recently decided to step down as president, as he and Karen are moving to Florida. With this change, I will be serving out the current term as your president. Long time member, John Kitner, has agreed to serve as vice president. Back in 2003, my wife Jan and I purchased a Certified Pre-Owned 1998 E320 Sedan. Having always done my own maintenance and repairs, I was a bit intimidated by this amazing German car. Joining the Mercedes Benz Club seemed like a logical choice to gather technical information to service this car. Members at the technical events encouraged me to attend the many other events offered by the Keystone Section in addition to the tech stuff. I was hooked! Being so impressed with the E320, I purchased a wagon for myself, and my son purchased a seven owner 1998 C280 that he and I fixed up as his first car. He s still driving it 3 years later. I encourage you to attend an upcoming event, whether you re a car guy like me, or enjoy social events. It s our goal to offer different events that appeal to the section members. We would like to wish Robert and Karen all the best as they move to Florida, and also to long-time past president, Larry, Mary and Robert Taylor as they embark on a new adventure. Hope to see you at an upcoming event! Marty Rexroth

!!Fall Rally Update!! Due to the sudden job change and relocation of our current Rally Master, we are in need of someone to plan a rally for October. Anyone willing to take on this adventure, please contact John Kitner, kitjan613@aol.com, 717-872-2988. Unless we have someone step-up as rally master, there will be no rally for our section this year. If this can be arranged, details will be sent to members via email blasts. If you are reading a paper copy of this newsletter, please make sure that I have your correct email so you receive this and other necessary email event updates. Keystone September Picnic back to Allenberry for 2017 The pavilion on the creek at Allenberry Playhouse will, once again, be the site for our annual Section picnic on Sunday, September 10. From 3 pm (while setting up for the people s choice car show) to 4:30 pm we will have a beverage center set up that includes - bottled water, lemonade, iced tea, coffee and Alllenberry's famous sticky buns. The picnic dinner will begin at 4:30 and will feature: Grilled chicken breast, grilled cheese burgers and hot dogs; house-made cole slaw and potato salad, grilled corn-on-the-cob, and for dessert there will be assorted cakes. The cost per adult is $25.00 (members + 1 guest), $30.00 (non-members), children under 12, $10.00, with any remaining cost subsidized by our section treasury. Cars will be on display in the meadow for the Members Choice Clean Car Show from 3:00 pm, with judging at 4:00pm, so shine up that beautiful Benz, and join your fellow members for a great day of food and fun! A short business meeting will follow our dinner. Winners of the car show will be announced, and trophies awarded. If you have questions or need directions, contact Donna Copenheaver, 717-764-5890 or maxanddonna@verizon.net. Donna must have an RSVP and your check by Tuesday September 5th so an accurate count is given to Allenberry. Note: Allenberry is now under new ownership and management. The costs have doubled from what we paid in the past; however, our Club Officers have voted to keep the price of the picnic the same as in previous years, at least for this year. At the business portion of the picnic we would appreciate any input as to whether we remain at Allenberry or look for a new venue. If you have any suggestions where a picnic of this size, with an area for showing our cars, and the food is catered, please bring this info with you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Keystone Section Picnic RSVP Name: Model & Year of Benz: Email: Number attending: Adult Members: @ $25.00 = $ Non Members: @ $30.00 = $ Children: @ $10.00 = $ Total $ RSVP by September 5, 2017 to: Donna Copenheaver 1351 Beeler Avenue York PA 17408-4502 Please make checks payable to: MBCA Keystone Section

Joint Event with MBCA NEPA 2017 FALL FROLIC RALLY By Ronald G. Gabel Our MBCA NEPA Fall Frolic Rally is Saturday September 9, 2017. The rally will begin with breakfast on your own at The Perkins Diner on Route 191 (Route 22 & 191), Bethlehem PA. - from 8:30-10:00 AM. This rally is a form of friendly competition in which participating cars leave a starting point individually, and are directed to follow a prescribed route to the finish point. NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! THIS IS IN NO WAY A RACE. In a race the idea is to get to the finish line in the shortest possible time. In this rally the aim is to follow a predetermined route, and correctly answer questions along the way. Going too fast will hurt your chances of winning Answers to all questions can be found along the route for those lucky enough to locate them. (Sort of a treasure hunt). Time allowed for completion of the rally will be more than sufficient to complete the task. This contest is simply a test of your ability to follow precise directions. Our rally will cover approximately fifty miles (four to five hours). Directions will be simple so no previous experience will be necessary. The rally will basically be a drive through the country, over scenic back roads while searching for answers to a number of questions, answers to which can be found along the way. You will drive slowly looking for answers to questions. Since you will be scored on driving the exact route and distance, backtracking to locate missed answers will count against you. Of course, so will missing the answer. Obviously, this is NOT a one-man job. WE REQUIRE TWO OR MORE PERSONS TO A CAR, family members and friends are welcome to participate in your car or theirs.. Each car will require a driver and one or more to navigate. All you really need to participate is a pencil, a car, a love for driving, a roadmap or GPS in case you get lost, and the desire to have a good time. General Instructions will be given to each designated navigator the morning of the rally. These Generals will explain how to correctly follow the route and the Rules of the Road. Your rally master will go over the instructions in detail and will answer all questions at the driver's meeting prior to the start of the rally. ALL PARTICIPANTS ARE INVITED TO JOIN US FOR BREAKFAST AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE, BUT ARE NOT REQUIRED TO BE THERE PRIOR TO THE DRIVER S MEETING ABOUT 9:45. The first car will start at about 10:00 AM. The Route Instructions, your directions from the start to finish of the rally, will be given to each driver one-minute prior to his start time. One of the cardinal rally rules is NEVER ASSUME ANYTHING, read your Generals carefully. Hope you will all plan to join us Saturday September 9th for food, good fun and good fellowship. Complementary light Refreshments and toilet facilities will be available at the half-way point of the rally sodas and pizza will be available PAID BY THE CLUB at the end of the rally with additional food available at your own expense. Plan to come early and have breakfast prior to the 10:00 AM starting time. JOIN IN THE FUN! PLAN NOT TO MISS THIS ONE! THE MORE PARTICIPANTS, THE MORE THE FUN! BRING THE FAMILY! YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO USE A MERCEDES CAR! Remember potential members and/or friends are welcome to participate in your car or their own. RSVP: Ron Gabel Assistant Newsletter Editor, Rally Master rggabel@ptd.net For Sale 1989 560SL, Arctic White(DB147)/Blue Leather with a blue soft top and white hard top. DEUTSCHE CLASSIC CAR SHOW Oley, PA JULY 8, 2017 We had approximately14 members from our Keystone Section attend the Deutsche Classic Car show at the Oley Fairgrounds to join the many other area Mercedes Benz enthusiasts showing their beautiful cars. Other marques on display included: Audi, BMW, Porsche and Volkswagen as well as the unique orphan cars. German motorcycles were also shown in a non-judged display. Other activities included a tire toss for the men and a ladies in jeans German car trivia contest for the women. Once again our local Hagerty sponsor, Wes Clegg, organized the Youth Judging Program for kids aged 8-14. Larry Taylor s son, Robert, the Youth Ambassador for the Mid-Atlantic Region, led the junior judges through the field. Please visit the Deutsche Classic web site, www.deutscheclassic.com to check for class winners and pictures. Welcome New Members! Veasey Cullen of York Kirk Hoffman of York Vernon Irwin of Spring Mills Harold Kivlan of Durham NC Cathy Mariano of Hanover James Rosenberg of Harrisburg Steve Seligson of York Jay Toms of Carlisle Hope to meet all of you at a future event! Airbag Recall At Mercedes-Benz, our highest priority is keeping you safe. So we'd like to share some important information about a recall involving Takata frontal airbags used in many vehicles, including certain Mercedes-Benz models. This safety recall is a result of inflators that may improperly deploy with excessive force in the event of a crash. Takata and other inflator suppliers are working with the U.S. Department of Transportation National Highway Administration (NHTSA) to coordinate availability of replacement airbags as soon as possible. To learn more about the Takata recall, including information on free airbag replacement, visit mbusa.com/mercedes/recall.

Nissley Vineyards Music In The Vineyards in August Rained Out! Nissley Winery s Music in the Vineyards 2017 is a series of open-air concerts held on the beautiful, spacious lawn of Nissley Winery on Saturday evenings from July 1st thru September 2nd. Twelve members and friends from our section attended their concert evening on Saturday, August 19th. We were enjoying some good music and great wine, along with food from the local food truck on site, when our evening was cut short by the advent of some serious thunder storms. We were forced to end our night early, and head to our cars. An exciting, but abrupt ending to our evening, for sure. We will try again some other year, as this was a fun night, while it lasted! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2018 Planning Meeting on November 11 Our planning meeting for our 2018 monthly events will be held on Saturday November 11 at Mercedes Benz of Lancaster.
