COLOMBIA TOUR RECOMMENDATIONS Coconut-Workshop in La Boquilla The project Madres-Cabeza de Familia y sus Cocos (Women, family patriarch and their coconuts) is an association of 7 women that in 2008 completed a crafts class sponsored by the foundation ProBoquilla and
produce nowadays jewelry, silverware, containers, vases, belts and other accessories. They founded a small company and work together in the backyard of the company's president. In order to fabricate something out of a coconut several steps as well as a lot of time are required. All of those "Damartes" (Damas de Arte = Women of Art) are mothers shaped by their life story. The association is a working group of impressive women that manufacture great things out of simple means. Pure! Colombia take you to La Boquilla where the Coconut-Ladies invite you to the workshop, and accompany them for a few hours. They introduce their company and the several working steps and show you the results after the work is done since all the steps take up to 1-2 days. Every participant can make their own souvenir out of the prepared pieces of coconut. For refreshment you will be offered a cold coconut beverage and a fried plantain with tomato-onion-sauce (Patacon con Ahogado). You can choose between making a bracelet, a key chain or a necklace. The workshop takes place in a very nice rustic Restaurant (Botswana Beach Club) right on the beach of la Boquilla. After the work is done you can take a dip in the Caribbean ocean before going back to Cartagena. Those who chose to stay at the beach for more time can book a later transport (additional charge). Colombia Important information for all travelers visiting Caño Cristales June 27, 2016.- The Ministry of Health of Colombia announced that all domestic and foreign travelers heading to Caño Cristales must be vaccinated against yellow fever. The Ministry requested tourist and diplomatic authorities to alert national and foreign travelers to carry with them the vaccination certificate against yellow fever when they travel to these places. The yellow fever vaccine should be applied 10 days before the trip to take effect and significantly reduce any risk of getting the disease.
