Northeastern Ohio Inter-Museum Council Guide Fourth Edition Listing Founded in 1942, the Northeastern Ohio Inter-Museum Council serves more than 100 institutional members in Cuyahoga and six adjacent counties. Members range from large, internationally renowned museums in major urban centers to metro parks, nature facilities and small local history museums spread across parts of the Western Reserve. The purpose of this organization is to enable its members to preserve history and works of art, to advance science and natural history, or to study and display works of art, minerals, animal and plant life. NeoiMC members work together to find solutions to their shared concerns in the fields of finance, legislation, public relations, education, personnel and related fields, and do what is necessary and proper to carry out the purposes for which individual member organizations were created. The Council provides a group forum for airing common goals and issues; sponsors educational workshops for museum staff and volunteers; hosts general meetings at member museums; and provides e-mail message board broadcasts for member museum activities. The Council s public products include printed and Web versions of the Guide to Northeastern Ohio Museums. We also have a facebook page at: www.facebook.com/ MuseumsofNortheastOhio. Between 1835 and 1837, Col. Perkins and his wife, Grace, built a large stone house one mile outside Akron, the town his father had helped co-found in 1825 along the Ohio and Erie Canal. The family set up a self-sustaining farm with large vegetable and floral gardens, cattle, horses and sheep giving the property its nickname of Mutton Hill. The care of sheep and sale of their wool, Merino and Saxony, provided a partnership between Perkins and abolitionist John Brown, later known for his raid on Harper s Ferry in an attempt to end slavery in the United States. Brown rented the house across the street where he and his family resided at times between 1844 and 1854. Both houses are located at the corner of the old stagecoach route and the Portage Path, a Native American route between the Cuyahoga and Tuscarawas Rivers that was also a boundary to prevent European migration into Indian land.
