Gang graffiti is also threatening. In both cases, graffiti will attract more of the same if left in place. It creates a perception that the area where it is found is not cared for. For these reasons it is important to address it as soon as it is observed. If you see someone in the act of placing graffiti or have information about a suspect, call 9-1-1 and state you are a Vancouver resident with a graffiti report. If you find graffiti: Record Take a picture, document the date, time, location and color of the graffiti Report Provide details to the appropriate agency If it s your property, you are responsible to remove it. Remove Once Vancouver Police Department is notified, wash or paint away quickly & thoroughly If it s not yours and if it s small enough that you can take care of the removal, please clean it off as soon as possible. We need to lend a hand towards crime prevention. We re invested in our homes and we should be invested in our neighborhood. Let s invest some of our time to keep it clean and safe. SPECIAL NOTES: Shumway Neighborhood Association can help! 1. We are allowed to paint state highway walls and we have the materials. Call Anne McEnerny-Ogle, 360-695-5124 when you spot graffiti on our sound walls. 2. We can assist property owners. We can borrow pressure washers, help with paint purchases and assist in getting rid of unsightly graffiti. Contact Anne McEnerny-Ogle. MOLLY S MUSINGS Ya know my moms been gone a lot the last few months, but it was for a good reason she has been learning A LOT! She has been learning to grow flowers, and veggies. (Not my favorite, I get yelled at for chasing those pesky bulb stealing squirrels through there; but then again they do make the neighborhood pretty when they bloom) She has been learning to grow groceries so she can teach others how to grow their own fresh veggies, and flowers via community gardens. She has been learning how to make compost, and how to recycle so that there will be less garbage going into landfills that creates methane gas, that adds to global warming. (I don t like it when it gets too hot, cuz I am covered in fur.) But ya know the neatest thing she has learned? It s about how to keep water from getting polluted. She has taught me some of the things: Did you know that the storm water drains connect directly into the streams, that raise salmon? So please don t dump ANYTHING into these drains, because if you put food, and chemicals like gasoline, grease, anti-freeze, your used oil ; you are helping to kill off salmon, and other wildlife that depend on clean water. Come to think of it, humans and my fellow dogs also depend on water being clean. Other things that will pollute water? - Fertilizers, and other lawn and household chemicals. (Did you know you can get in trouble for putting stuff into storm drains? Try learning to garden organically, and if you have to use chemicals to control weeds etc. Use them sparingly. When it rains, or you overwater those chemicals will leach into the ground water, again causing pollution She s even got me involved. She had me join a group called Canines for Clean Water She took a pledge, that said she would always pick up my poop, and throw it in the garbage. Never leave it on a lawn where it gets into ground water, and NEVER EVER put it on your veggie garden. And, by taking that pledge, she got a pretty blue bandana for me! I look so pretty in it!

So as you see us around the neighborhood this spring, and summer, stop us and ask how you can get involved in helping to make our corner of the world a pleasant and safer place to live. If you have questions about different ways to do things or other questions please stop us and ask. Mom loves to talk. She tells me that if she doesn t know the answer right away, she will find it, and get back with you. Happy Spring!
