DIPLOMA OF AVIATION (COMMERCIAL PILOT LICENCE - AEROPLANE)^ National code: AVI50215 Start dates: See boxhill.edu.au How to enrol: VTAC and Direct Entry Location: Box Hill and Moorabbin Airport 2 years The Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence Aeroplane) provides the foundation theoretical and practical expertise required to qualify for a commercial pilot licence. Learning outcomes Students complete theory and practical based sessions, covering important operational requirements, flight rules and risk management protocols. Subject areas include: aircraft radio communications, threat and error management, navigation, safety, managing passengers and cargo, ground and in-air conditions and operations, airspace requirements, civil aviation law, situational awareness and licence requirements. Selection Method Hold or be able to hold a CASA Class 1 Medical Must be at least 18 years or over once CPL is issued have a minimum pass of 50% in Year 12 (or equivalent qualification) OR undertake a reading and numeracy assessment using an approved assessment tool and display competence at or above Exit Level 3 in the Australian Cores Skills Framework (ACSF). Career outcomes Students who successfully complete all requirements of the qualification and the CASA Commercial Pilot Licence requirements, may after gaining an appropriate level of experience, find employment as a charter pilot, flight instructor, agricultural operations pilot, commercial airline pilot, search and rescue pilot, fire spotting and aerial surveyor, joy flight operator or air ambulance pilot. Further Study Options Graduates of this course may go on to study the Advanced Diploma of Aviation (Chief Flight Instructor), Advanced Diploma of Aviation (Pilot in Command), Bachelor of Aviation or Bachelor of Aviation Management. AVIATION DIPLOMA OF AVIATION (INSTRUMENT RATING)^ National code: AVI50415 Start dates: See boxhill.edu.au How to enrol: Direct Entry Location: Box Hill and Moorabbin Airport 20 weeks The Diploma of Aviation (Instrument Rating) is designed to provide the necessary qualification to allow pilots to fly anytime and in most weather conditions. You will learn how to take on the challenging role of flying an aircraft solely with reference to the aircraft s instruments in a variety of weather conditions. Learning outcomes This course starts with classroom theory in preparation for the Instrument Rating Exam (IREX). It continues with intensive simulator training followed by a multi engine endorsement and dual navigation exercises. It is a course that will ensure you are provided with quality IFR training and the attainment of a Multi Engine Command Instrument Rating (MECIR) as well as the Diploma of Aviation (Instrument Flight Operations). The Multi Engine Command Instrument Rating (MECIR) course is intended primarily for those who already hold a Commercial Pilots Licence (CPL) and have a minimum of 50 hours cross country command time and 10 hours night flying time (including 5 hours as pilot in command at night). You will also understand the requirements for the design and development of learning plans that will enhance your training methods. Learning outcomes With the guidance of highly skilled and respected driver trainers you will learn car control through verbal instruction, the safe and effective use of the dual controls in the driving school vehicles and how and when to take control in an emergency situation. Road Rules Victoria, The Road Safety Act and as well as Driving Instructor regulations and conditions relating to driver training are comprehensively covered. Selection Method Individual interview Test or examination (literacy and numeracy) Career outcomes You will be qualified to apply to the Taxi Services Commission (Driving instructors governing body) for a Driving Instructor Authority which will enable you to train and prepare clients to obtain their Victorian drivers licence (in vehicles under 4.5 tonne) either working for a driving school or in your own business. Working as a driver trainer can be rewarding and challenging as well as flexible enabling you to decide on your own working hours. Further Study Options You may wish to study further modules and gain your Certificate IV in Training and Assessment which will enable you to train others in a classroom setting. Taking extra modules in other courses will allow you to teach truck drivers.
