Itinerary for the Chapter in Hannover including a Franconia wine visit to Würzburg/Main from 13. 20. June 2014 Friday, 12 June 2014 Early afternoon flight from Edinburgh to Hannover via Frankfurt arriving mid - evening. We will be will be collected by members of the Wine-Brotherhood, Hannover ( Weinfreunde zu Hannover ) and taken to our 4-star hotel, the Mercure. No pre-booked evening meal arrangements. The day prior arrival is necessitated for those flying as Hannover is not accessible from Scotland before mid evening. Friday, 13. June 2014 Day free on this beautiful city until 17.00 when official programme commences. An evening get-together takes place at 17.00 h. at the Hannover Town Hall, followed by a barbeque/buffet on the terrace of the Garden-Room ( Gartensaal ). Our hotel lies within easy walking distance of the Town Hall. Saturday, 14. June 2014 A viewing of the Town Hall and a tour of the city in three languages German, English and French, are planned for this morning. Don t forget to pack walking shoes.. Lunch is planned for 12.30 h. After lunch, shopping for those who wish and time to prepare for the evening Grand Chapter at the Town Hall. The Grand Chapter starts at 18.00 h. in the fabulous and famous mosaic-room ( Mosaiksaal ) under the patronage of his Excellency Mr. Stephan Weil, Prime-Minister of Lower Saxony, former Mayor of Hannover and a close friend of our Wine Brotherhood (Evening dress incl. Tastevin). The ceremony will be followed by a champagne reception during which all council members should remain in their formal robes. At the end of this reception all council members will change into their dinner jackets complete with mini-tastevin to join the Gala Dinner in the Garden-Room.
Sunday, 15. June 2014 At 10.30 h. we will be collected at the hotel and brought to the Gardens of Herrenhausen ( Herrenhäuser Gärten ). We shall enjoy a tour of the castle, former seat of the Kings of Hannover, the Welfen, with it s surrounding gardens. Weather allowing, we will take lunch in form of an elegant picnic in these gardens. In the evening, we meet at the well-known Wienecke IV restaurant for a traditional asparagus meal. Monday, 16. June 2014 Leaving our hotel at 10.00 h. we will enjoy a comfortable coach journey to Melsungen, a medieval town situated in the heart of Germany. After a short stroll around town, we join for lunch at 12.30 h. The journey then continues to the capital city of Würzburg/Main, former residence of the Archbishop and electoral princes of Franconia and not to forget, centre of the world famous Franconia wines. Here we check into our 4-star hotel, the Wittelsbacher Höh. Prior to the evening meal, for those who wish, we have the opportunity to learn a little bit about the Franconia region and it s history in the form of a talk in German and English. Dinner together rounds off our 5 th day. Tuesday, 17. June 2014 After being picked up by coach at our hotel, we will embark on a tour of Würzburg, one of Germany s most beautiful cities, partly by foot and partly by coach. Cameras are a must! At midday, a small wine-tasting followed by lunch at the Bürgerspital has been arranged followed by a viewing of the famous Staatlicher Hofkeller, a stately owned Cellar labyrinth dating back to 1720. Dinner together at our hotel at the end of this day. Wednesday, 18. June 2014 At 10.00 h. our coach will drive us to Nordheim/Main where we will enjoy a wine-tasting at the DIVINO wine-holding. We are then boarding a large wooden raft at 12.00 h. Rafting on the river Main we enjoy a traditional rustically Franconia casse-croute accompanied by local wines and livemusic. Perhaps a little tired by all these events or maybe even revived by the fabulous Franconia wine, we can relax and enjoy the drive back to our hotel to have our evening meal there.
Thursday, 19. June 2014 Our coach will collect us this morning for the final tour of the Franconia wine region. The chance to view the amazing variety of Franconia vines and wines in their natural habitat. Lunch is at the restaurant Ewig Leben in the well-known wine-town of Randersacker. After having spent the day in Franconia, we meet for our farewell dinner at the hotel where, after having seen how the wines grow, we can enjoy them as accompaniment to a Franconia gourmet menu. (Formal dress incl. Tastevin is required). Friday, 20. June 2014 Our Franconia wine journey ends after breakfast together. Travel arrangements and departure time to Frankfurt International Airport to be advised. Hoping we may meet again in Indianapolis in 2015, we say farewell after a very eventful Wine-Week.
