Visit a Maasai village to see their singing and dancing rituals. Embark on your last game drive in the Masai Mara on Day 4 before returning to Nairobi. Take a bus to Arusha on Day 5, crossing the border into Tanzania. Enjoy a day to relax and explore on your own. Depart for Lake Manyara in the Great Rift Valley on Day 6, known for its flamingos, hippos, and famous tree-climbing lions. Day 1: Nairobi Airport Pick-up Today you will be picked up at the Nairobi airport upon arrival and transferred to a tented camp where you will get settled in and make last minute arrangements for your exciting safari adventure ahead. All Categories Overnight in Wildebeest Eco Camp or similar Day 2: Nairobi - Masai Mara National Reserve (B/L/D) You will be picked from your hotel at 8:30am for journey south along the floor of the dramatic Great Rift Valley to Masai Mara National Reserve - an extension of Tanzania's Serengeti National Park also known as The 7th Wonder of the World because of the Great migration, witnessed every year between June and September when millions of wildebeests and zebras cross Mara River from Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya in search of food and water and it is famous for its wide variety of resident wildlife all year round. With Lunch at Narok Town you will arrive Masai Mara National Reserve in time for an afternoon game drive where you may have a chance of seeing the Big Five', different varieties of birdlife and the best savannah vegetation in the world. This is serene vast country of breath-taking vistas, a panorama of vast rolling plains and rounded hills, of intermittent groves of acacia woodlands and dense thickets of scrub. The Mara River and its tributaries which are margined by luxuriant riverine forest bisect the whole land. The famous Masai tribesmen live within the dispersal area of the game reserve. Lodge Package: Overnight in Mara Sopa Lodge or similar. Day 3: Masai Mara National Reserve (B/L/D) Full day drives for the day to absorb the beauty and splendor of the Mara. In this country of breathtaking vistas, view its vast assemblages of plains game together with their associated predators. Mara has the largest population of lions to be found in Kenya. Other animals to be seen here include Buffalo, Black Rhino, Hippopotamus, Leopard, Cheetah, Common Zebra, Coke's Hartebeest, White-bearded Gnu, Oribi, Warthog and Thomson's and Grant's Gazelles. The bird life of Mara is as profuse as its mammalian fauna. Have a picnic lunch at the Mara River where you can enjoy your box lunch while watching crocodiles and hippos laze around in their natural habitat. This is a great way to take advantage of your time in the park and enjoy seeing the views below and all around you. After lunch continue your game drive in search for more wildlife.
Today you will be dropped off at the Masai Village at 5:00 pm for an opportunity to visit the Masai people to witness the singing and dancing that are part of their daily lives and sacred rituals. Upon arrival at the village proceed for a nature walk with the Masai naturalist guide, you will get to see herbs that are used as medication among the Masai. Return to the village where a camp fire will be lit, entertainment from both women, children and men of the village follows with a chance for you to join in their dancing. The chief will then give you stories of their culture and tradition, they will show you how the herbs seen during the nature walk are prepared and used. You will also have a glimpse into their homes and social structure, dinner will be served at the village followed by coffee and tea as you leave to return to your accommodation for overnight. Breakfast will be served back at your accommodation and then you will depart for your leisurely drive back to Nairobi today arriving in the late afternoon. You will be dropped off at your tented camp to rest up. This evening you will be picked up and transferred to the iconic Carnivore Restaurant for a delicious dinner of various game meats including crocodile, ostrich, buffalo and ox among more basic chicken, pork and beef options. Great Rift Valley, for some game viewing. Lake Manyara National Park is small, beautiful and richly diverse. Its size makes it possible to see almost all of its highlights in a day, from its pods of hippos wallowing in the lake alongside thousands of pink flamingoes, to its rich wildlife and famous tree-climbing lions. *Note: You will have the option today to visit the Mto wa mbu village for an opportunity to visit their farms, huts, artisan shops and their local market. However, the visit will only be made if the entire tour group agrees to go. Additionally, each person will be required to pay an extra fee for this visit, since it is not included in any of the travel packages. Budget Package: Overnight in Jambo Campsite or similar. Day 7: Lake Manyara - Serengeti National Park (B/L/D) After breakfast, take your picnic lunch box and leave for the UNESCO World heritage site of Serengeti National Park with its endless open plains of grasslands stretching far into the horizon. En route, we stop at Olduvai Gorge, the "cradle of mankind", where the Leakey family uncovered the fossil of Homo habilis who lived 1.75 million years ago. Enjoy views from the top of the gorge or opt to enter the historical site for an extra fee. We also make a stop at a Masai Village and pass through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which was created to accommodate the needs of the Maasai people and which tests the idea that humans leading a pastoral lifestyle can coexist with wildlife. Day 8: Serengeti National Park - Ngorongoro Crater Rim (B/L/D) Wake up at 6am for early morning game drives in Serengeti before breakfast. Large prides of lions laze in the long grasses, families of elephants feed on acacia bark and trumpet to each other across the plains, while giraffes, gazelles, monkeys, eland and the whole range of African wildlife present themselves in awe-inspiring numbers. Day 9: Ngorongoro Crater Floor - Drive Back to Arusha (B/L/D) Today we descend 2,000 feet into the giant caldera of this extinct volcano, considered as Africa's Eden' and the 8th Natural Wonder of the World'. This magnificent natural amphitheater contains the largest concentration of animals in all of Africa. The rich pasture and permanent water on the Crater floor supports a population of some 20,000 to 25,000 large mammals. Prides of lion, black rhino and elephant share this land with the legendary Maasai tribesmen. Because the grasses are short, game is easily spotted and can be approached quite closely. You'll have a fabulous time on the floor of the crater observing wildlife in this ageless World Heritage Site. Take a break for lunch at Ngoitoktok spring before proceeding with some more game viewing and then ascending the crater to drive back to Arusha. You will return back to Arusha this evening and stay overnight. Have dinner there.
