As a result of this construction, M-123 will be closed until approximately June 24. Those visitors driving to Crisp Point on M-123 through Paradise will not be affected. If you plan to drive to Crisp Point from Newberry, Deer Park, Grand Marais or Munising, you will have to take an alternate route. For more information, please call the Newberry Area Chamber of Commerce at 906-293-5562 or email director1@lighthouse.net. Crisp Point Light Newsletter #31 May 2011 450 W. Members of Crisp Point Light are welcome to bring their tent or camper and spend the weekend at the Light. There will be a small amount of work to do, but most of your time can be spent visiting with other members and relaxing. To sign up or get more information, please call Rick Brockway at (517) 230-6294 or email cplhs@sbcglobal.net. CPLHS Annual Conference Don t forget to mark your calendars! The 15th Crisp Point Annual Conference will take place on Saturday, July 16, 2011. The meeting will start at 10:00 am at the Whitefish Township School in Paradise. Coffee will be available starting at 9:00 a.m. for those who would like to arrive earlier. Your admission price includes all three meals that day. Breakfast and lunch will be served at the school and a hotdog dinner will be prepared out at the lighthouse. In the morning, we will hear all the latest news concerning the lighthouse, Crisp Point merchandise will be available for purchase and we will hold our annual auction. One of the auction items this year is a unique 24 silhouette similar to those given to donors to the rock fundraiser. We will also have a special guest speaker, Nathan Gregorich, the Ship Manager of the Museum Ship Valley Camp. The conference pricing has been changed this year. Individuals are now $12 per person, and we have a new family price of $30. Children 12 and under are always free. Everyone is welcome, you do not need to be a CPLHS member to attend. Sign up using the form on page 4 of this newsletter, pay at the door, or visit our website and print out the form. If you would like to help, or have other questions, please call Rick at (517) 230-6294. We would like to limit the auction to a reasonable length. If you have a special item you would like to donate, please call Rick at the number above to make sure there is still space open for your item. If you would like to donate food for the lunch, please call Rick or email cplhs@sbcglobal.net to find out what is needed. Hope to see you there!

Crisp Point Rocks! The large rocks along the bank have protected the lighthouse for many years. The first ones were placed in 1999, and additional rocks were added in 2003 and 2007. These have served us well, but more are needed. The rocks are being undermined by the waves, and the bank on the east end collapsed during a storm in 2009. New rock has been delivered by Lechner Construction, and they have generously allowed us to make partial payments. At this time, we are asking for your help, in the form of a donation that will help pay for the rocks. As a bonus, donors may receive a silhouette similar to the new sign on the visitor center. These are exclusively available to those who contribute to this fundraiser and will not be sold separately. Those who donate $60 will receive a round silhouette, 10 inches in diameter, while donors of $100 will receive a 14 inch silhouette. The silhouettes, at right, are made of laser cut stainless steel and are similar to the new sign on the Visitor Center shown at left. These silhouettes will only be available until the end of 2011. Crisp Point Light Newsletter # 31 May 2011 Page 7 Harbour Light Replica We are happy to announce that CPLHS has ordered 300 miniature replicas of Crisp Point Light made by Harbour Lights. This item will be a little different than the previous replicas. It will not be numbered, but will have CPLHS on the bottom. Also, the new replica will have a fall color scheme. The replicas are exclusively available through CPLHS, they will not be sold by Harbour Lights or any other vendor. The price for each miniature will be $24.95 (set by Harbour Lights). Though they will not be available until sometime this summer, you may pre-order now by using the order form on the back page of this newsletter. You may also order on the website using PayPal. If you are interested in purchasing one of these, don t wait too long. We have received orders for more than 50 of them already! ebay Giving Works Program If you buy or sell on ebay, please remember that you can support Crisp Point Light at the same time. Sellers can set a percentage of their sale to go directly to CPLHS. Buyers can search for listings that are donating money to Crisp Point. So far, we have received $7.80 from this program. For all the details, please visit this page on our web site: crisppointlighthouse.org/ebaygiving.html. Have you seen the Crisp Point hat pins? Use the order form on page 8, or order online using PayPal. Directional Signs Vandalized We were disappointed to find that four of the six new directional signs that were installed last year have been damaged. These signs cost $40 each and there are no plans to replace them at this time. A sample of the new replica.
