President s Message If you loved birthday cake then there was plenty of it last week. Rainbows of all descriptions, sponge cake and cream! Two birthdays of significance in one week - who would have thought. A zero one and a retirement age one, but, no rest for the wicked in either case and loads more work to get done isn't there Anne F. And a special thank you to the Dolan family from White Rock Vineyard. What was that German grape type again - dohndorfer, no, dornfelder! Too much cake obviously, since only a sip of the delightful Riesling was permitted. Now just to make the birthday story a little more interesting and that coincidence replaced with another - what are the chances of having dinner in a Cradle Mountain restaurant and be seated in a small alcove next to two other couples dining separately when...they introduce themselves as they have been chatting before you came, one Croatian born with his wife from Sydney and the other Italian born with his wife from Melbourne, more wine here...then amongst the deliveries of food comes a dessert with 'Happy Birthday' on it. Well, it was a day late birthday for the Croatian's wife (name lost in a food and wine haze here) - for the 4 th May. Basically Tweed born lady whose parents moved there from Malanda NQ, known haunt of mine for heritage work and some great friends of ours. Well...the party just got bigger and bigger and we were all still shaking our heads when we rose to leave. There you have it - the GP 60 th Birthday story. By the way those couples had considerable resources and were travelling for 1 week and 2 weeks respectively in 5 star plus where possible. Great fun hearing their stories of their younger and work lives after migrating here though. However, goodness only knows what the rest of the diners close by made of the whole thing. More news - what has Michael done now?...he just went and got that job as District Governor Elect Designate for 2020/21, that's what. All bets were immediately off and now some very serious planning will need to take place. Thankfully there is plenty of time and we have both our roles at District to work on in the meantime. And to this week - have your celebration faces on again please. Lots happening at the meeting - all delightful and well worth celebrating along with Mother's Day. Don't forget to BYO your own drinks please as only a limited selection will be available. Yours in Rotary Gayle
