We had 36 attend the meeting plus one 3 year old (Stewart Bower s granddaughter who took the donut and left since that was all that she was interested in). ADMINISTRATIVE ITEMS Airport Manager Keith Freitas briefed on the taxi-way paving plan. MDPA President President Maurice Gunderson briefed on the Fly-Out for today - a trip to Chico arranged by Scott Davis for a tour of the Sierra Pacific Brewery and a late lunch. He also described the upcoming Friday joint dinner meeting presentation for EAA and MDPA by Navy Corsair Pilot Dean Diz Laird (Scott s Achelis s Father-in- Law). The second month s delivery of oil orders was planned for today. SAFETY FORUM Moderator Steve Kennedy Steve got our attention immediately by showing a video of an experience made possible by Maureen Bell when she won a Sean Tucker award for an acrobatic/aerobatic experience. She clearly was not interested (very smart lady!) so gave the award to Steve Kennedy. He showed us the video of inverted flight and he was 1 P a g e

shown to be enjoying it -smiling while drooling under the extreme forces upside down. It was of particular interest to hear how Tucker had successfully landed after having lost his prop while demonstrating aerobatic flight with a student. Steve s presentation was on the use of checklists. Distractions, complacency, laziness, familiarity, and expectations are all the enemies of adherence to checklists and ultimately safety. We discussed some of the famous and infamous situations where safety was compromised by all of the enemies of checklists. This forum turned out to be a lively pilot s discussion as many spoke up about personal experiences of mistakes made in using checklists carelessly. We must look out for each other----an MDPA "safety culture." MDPA DINNER MEETING, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 18 2016, 6:30PM by Maureen Bell What a great evening, with such a large crowd for everything to go well was almost a miracle! It was the first time we have had a joint dinner meeting with EAA and hopefully it will not be the last. As usual, many thanks to our master chef Scott Davis and his assistant Rich Johnson and to the volunteers who spent their time and effort getting the room ready, plus cleaning up afterwards. Our speaker kept the entire room s attention during his one and a half hours extremely interesting talk. A great speaker with a great sense of wit. Navy Corsair Pilot Dean Diz Laird (Scott s Achelis s Father-in-Law). Aviators come in all sizes and all ages. 2 P a g e

A group of our EAA friends. The Lil Man was guarding our name badges, per instructions from John Potter. Looks like serious conversations going on here. Diane (in the blue jacket) will be looking for you at the Christmas dinner. 4 P a g e

Monica (Keith s wife), Maureen, asking Keith if there was any chance of a reduction in rent and Keith telling Scott No way on a reduction Steve and Diane are both in photos, we need to get Kevin next time! Here comes dessert! The table decorations were beautiful! 5 P a g e
