OUR PHILOSOPHY Anchored in a safe, supportive and richly diverse community, South Milwaukee s Fun Camp program fosters the values of sharing, integrity, responsibility and respect. Campers are introduced to new experiences allowing them to develop a greater sense of self-esteem and self-confidence. Included in our camp, is an incentive program. The overall objective of the program is to promote good behavior through positive reinforcement. Campers will earn camp points for behaviors such as lending a helping hand, being a good listener, being a good friend, improving on a negative behavior, acting appropriately during field trips and on the bus, etc. Staff will award points to campers in an age appropriate level. At the end of each week all camps will recognize their campers who have displayed the behaviors and attitudes we strive for at camp. The specific aspects to the program are: Helping Hands When a camper goes beyond expectations in helping others. Most Valuable Camper-This award is presented to a camper that demonstrates sportsmanship, leadership and overall positive behavior on a consistent basis STAFF SUPERVISION Each week our camp is supervised daily by a qualified adult supervisor and counselors of college or high school-age who have gone through a thorough training covering such topics such as: safety, leadership, behavior management, CPR, 1st aid, bloodbourne pathogens, swimming pool procedure and policies, arts and crafts and game instructions. Our nurturing and trained staff will be sensitive and flexible to the many needs of our participants. We want every child to end their week long camp with new friends, lessons and memories that will last a lifetime! After all The best memories are made at Camp! Attendance and Permission Slips This is NOT a drop-in program. Campers will Not Be Allowed to leave the grounds early without a signed written release from their parent/legal guardian. Written permission is also needed if you wish for your child to leave with someone else, walk home, or temporarily leave to attend another activity or camp. The written permission must be presented to the camp director. All parents/legal guardians must sign in their child upon arrival and sign out their child upon departure with the designated camp director. If you know your child will not be attending camp, please notify the camp director or call the Recreation Department at (414) 766-5081 two hours prior to the start of camp. You may leave a message on the answering machine and the Recreation Department will notify the camp directors. Page 4 Visit our webpage at www.smrecdept.org Call us at 766-5081

ARRIVAL AND PICK UP Campers must arrive on time to begin the day s activities. Parents/legal guardians are required to pick up their children from 5:00-5:30pm. Parents who arrive late to pick up a child will be charged a $10.00 late fee for every 15 minutes (or portion thereof) they are late. In the event that a child is not picked up at the appropriate time we will call the emergency numbers you've provided. After one-half (1/2) hour, the staff will call the South Milwaukee Police Department to come pick up the child, releasing care of him/her. Frequent (three times) late pick-ups will result in suspension from the program. Please try to be prompt at pick-up; it can be upsetting for a child to be the last camper at pick-up. The Recreation Department does not provide transportation to and from camp. THIS IS NOT A LICENSED DAY CARE CENTER The purpose of the program is to provide a variety of educational and creative group games and activities for the children on a daily basis. The Recreation Department Staff is not able to provide one-on-one care service for the children. Children must be able to take care of themselves.
