JUST A FEW WORDS (Yeah right just a few) From John Moore PWCC president Geez Lousie, seems like I ve gotten real busy doing nothing. And I am still waiting on warm weather! Spring Fling was great! Thanks to the 14 members that were there to put on a show. We had 67 carvings on display. it was quite a day And then on Tuesday we have been carving at WOODCRAFT from 1 4pm. We will continue that as long as there is interest. The folks at Woodcraft have been real friendly. We made the $200 donation to the Living History Farm at the Roper Mountain Science Center. This was in honor of our friend Don Haskell. He was a regular volunteer there for over 20 years. Second Saturday at the farm was interesting; Lila Gilmer still needs help with display and demonstrations there. May 15 we are giving a presentation to a senior group at a Methodist church. And in June our annual club picnic comes up. It will be held at Lake Robinson this year (more on that later). I am looking forward to having a short program by Tom Gow at this month s meeting. We hope to have some visiting woodcarvers at future meetings, stay tuned for more information! SEE YOU AT THE MEETING ON THE 15 th JOHN
CARVING NEWS DID YOU FORGET MEMBERSHIP DUES? Jim wants to remind the members that the board has 2014 reduced the dues for to $25, and a renewal form can be found on our website, or at the clubhouse. http://piedmontwoodcarvers.com/about-us/ DON HASKELL MEMORIAL We were pleased to present a check for $200.00 to the LIVING HISTORY FARM at the Roper Mountain Science Center. These funds came from member donations made in honor of the late Don Haskell. Donations totaled $174.00 and the club treasury rounded the amount up to $200.00. Club President John Moore and Treasurer Vince DeCarlo are pictured here presenting the check to Dana Darling. Our donation will be combined with others made in Don's memory to create a special feature in the woodworking area of the farm. Thank you to everyone that helped to honor our friend Don Haskell.. SECOND SATURDAY AT ROPER MOUNTAIN You are missing out on the fun if you don t do the SECOND SATURDAY event at the Roper Mountain Science Center. The Piedmont Wood Carvers participate in the woodworking area each month. We need volunteers to join Lila Gilmer on the second Saturday of each month. We always need carvings for display and people to talk about wood carving and to do demonstrations. The fun part is when there are enough volunteers you can take turns visiting the various areas of the farm. Several club members are regular volunteers in different parts of the day. Katie & Karly Conklin, Adeline King and Ryan Miller are just a few. Get in touch with Lila today and volunteer. This not only benefits our club but it is good for our community. MONTHLY CARVING A TOM GOW RETROSPECTIVE Tom Gow has enjoyed wood carving for quite a while now. He is best known for his cottonwood cottages and condos, but he carved for a long time before he knew about cottonwood. We have asked Tom to do a short program featuring some of his earlier work (before bark) and do a little show and tell. Don t miss this program at our April Monthly meeting, which is Saturday April 19, 2014. The start time is 9:00am, announcements at 10:30am and as soon as those are over Tom will begins his presentation. SEE YOU THERE!
