AUSTSWIM was formed in 1979, with the objective of developing a consistent and better quality training of Teachers of Swimming and Water Safety across Australia and New Zealand. In 2014 AUSTSWIM is a dynamic and influential, not for profit, mainstay of the grassroots aquatic industry providing training, accrediatation, standards and innovation that benchmark and support safer aquatic participation and drowning prevention strategies across the country. AUSTSWIM has a strong philosophy that is founded in the belief that all Australians should have appropriate and relevant swimming and water safety knowledge and skills. AUSTSWIM trains, accredits and licences 10,000 Teachers of Swimming and Water Safety per year. Currently over 30,000 active AUSTSWIM teachers based in Australia, New Zealand and internationally provide aquatic education in local communities.
