Autumn Leaves: Eastern Canada! Treat yourself to a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Experience small-town Canada, fresh country air, delicious local food and fine scenery every day. This tour travels to the heart of Eastern and Maritime Canada - visiting the historic towns of Quebec City and Halifax. In between you ll discover pristine, rugged nature and delightful small-town Canada. The tour meanders through gorgeous forests along the way and as you will see, in eastern Canada the sea is never far as well! This tour is ideal if you are looking for relaxing scenery and nature. Day one, Monday, October 1, 2018 inbound to Québec City This morning we fly across the continent to Québec City, a charming provincial capital nestled on the shores of the majestic Saint Lawrence river. A fine welcome dinner awaits in the heart of the historic district tonight. (D) Day two Tuesday, October 2 - Full day of sightseeing in Québec City Rise and Shine! Today you will enjoy a full-day tour of Québec City which is a remarkably interesting town. You ll see the site of the famous battle where the French were defeated by the British forces in 1759 as well as all of the major highlights of this beautiful and historic city. Day three Wednesday, October 3 - Leisurely morning in Québec City - travel to Charlevoix County After a busy day of sightseeing, you ll appreciate a more relaxed pace day today. This morning will be free for you to enjoy at your leisure. There are many wonderful places to explore on foot near your hotel. At noon, we ll meet at the legendary Chateau Frontenac hotel where we will enjoy a casual High Tea together. This afternoon, we ll depart Québec City for the countryside - travelling east along the Saint Lawrence river into scenic Charlevoix county. Our first stop will be at the lovely Montmorency Falls where you will take a spectacular cable car ride to the historic Montmorency manor - once the home of British nobility. Afterwards, we ll travel along the coast to Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré, a magnificent church where many local people believe miracles take place each year. We ll then continue our route into the rugged and beautiful Laurentian forest to the town of Baie-St-Paul where we will overnight. (B, High Tea) Day four Thursday, October 4 Leisurely morning - cross the Saint Lawrence River to the Gaspé Region This is a perfect morning for you to book an appointment at the Spa - or to explore the lovely town of Baie-St-Paul. Later this morning, our fall foliage sightseeing will continue as we travel along the beautiful Saint Lawrence River to the small town of Saint Simeon where we will board a ferry for a short sail across the Saint Lawrence river. We ll then travel along the coast and into the vast forests of the Gaspé Peninsula to a remote retreat called Mont Albert. A fine dinner awaits. (B, Picnic lunch, D) Day five Friday, October 5 Gaspé Coast to Acadian Shores in New Brunswick Beautiful forests and fine ocean vistas abound today as we travel along the scenic Gaspé coast into northern New Brunswick. Later today we ll arrive in the town of Moncton where we will overnight. (B) Day six Saturday, October 6 Bay Fortune, Prince Edward Island This morning we will travel to the lovely garden province of Prince Edward Island via the Confederation Bridge, the longest (8 miles) bridge over ice-bound waters in the world (of course there will be no ice in autumn!). Day seven Sunday, October 7 - Leisurely sightseeing on Prince Edward Island. Today we ll explore several scenic areas of Prince Edward Island, including a visit to Green Gables, the famous home of Lucy Maud Montgomery, author of Anne of Green Gables. You ll marvel at the pretty and tidy farmlands of this picturesque island. Tonight, you ll enjoy a wonderful dinner at our inn. (B, D) Day eight - Monday, October 8 - Ferry to Nova Scotia - travel to Cape Breton Today we ll take a short (75 minute) ferry ride to the neighbouring province of Nova Scotia. We ll travel to the charming town of Baddeck which was made famous by Alexander Graham Bell who had his summer home for many years here. It is a place he greatly love and it is here where he chose to be buried. Late today we ll travel to the nearby village of Iona, our home for the next two nights. A nice dinner awaits. (B, D) Day nine Tuesday, October 9 Cape Breton Highlands This morning we will travel along the legendary Cabot Trail, a scenic route that brings us through the Cape Breton Highlands National Park - one of Canada s prettiest national parks. You ll see fine ocean views, pretty coastal villages as well as travel through the highlands which boast gorgeous forests and fine autumn scenery - a true highlight of this entire tour. Tonight we will return to Iona where you will have the evening at your leisure. (B, L) Day ten Wednesday, October 10, Coastal route to Halifax Say goodbye to Cape Breton, this morning we travel to mainland Nova Scotia and the provincial capital of Halifax. (B, D) Day eleven Thursday, October 11 - Peggy s Cove and return flights home Early this morning we will travel to nearby Peggy s Cove - one of Canada s most famous seaside villages. You ll have a bit of free time to take pictures and to explore this tiny town before we continue to Halifax airport for your return flights home. Day two - Friday, September 28 - visit Niagara Falls - overnight in the Toronto region Rise and shine - this morning you ll awaken to a beautiful view of Niagara Falls, one of the world s most spectacular natural wonders! After a hearty breakfast at your hotel, you ll enjoy a tour of the area around the falls followed by a scenic drive into the heart of Canada s fruit growing and wine producing region where the country s famous Icewine is produced. We ll visit a winery and also enjoy a nice lunch in the region before continuing on to the outskirts of Toronto where we will overnight. (B, L) Day three - Saturday, September 29 - travel by rail to Canada s national capital A busy day of sightseeing begins with a visit to the McMicheal Gallery of Canadian Art. Afterwards we ll travel to the heart of Toronto where we will ascend the CN Tower for a breathtaking view of the city and lunch. This afternoon, we ll explore Toronto together before boarding a train for a 4.5 hour evening ride to Ottawa, Canada s national capital. You ll have dinner while the countryside glides by your train s large panoramic windows. A mix of forest groves and sprawling farmlands over a vast flat territory dotted by industrious little towns and villages, will accompany you along the way. This evening, you ll arrive in Ottawa where a comfortable hotel awaits. (B, L, D) Day four - Sunday, September 30, 2018 - Day four - discover Ottawa, travel to Montreal This morning, enjoy an orientation tour of Canada s pretty capital city, Ottawa. We ll also visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier followed by a visit to the Canadian War Museum. Later today, we ll travel by motorway to Montreal (about 2.5 hours). (B, D) Day five - Monday, Oct 1, 2018 - explore Montreal - travel to Quebec City - Eastern Canada tour begins! We ll enjoy a city tour of Montreal, Canada s second largest city (and the world s second largest French-speaking city). After lunch, we ll travel by motorway to Quebec City. where we will greet the rest of the group who will be arriving from Seattle and begin our 11-day Eastern Canada tour. Activity Level This tour is rated activity level 3: Activity Level 1 - A very easy tour. Minimal physical activity such as climbing some stairs, boarding your motorcoach, and walking from the hotel lobby area to your hotel rooms and dinning areas. Activity Level 2 - An average physical ability tour. You should be in good health, able to climb stairs and walk reasonable distances, possibly over uneven ground and cobblestone streets. Activity Level 3 - A moderate physical activity tour. The itinerary features a mix of a few longer days with shorter days (and more leisure time). You should be in good health, able to participate in walking tours as well as walking slightly longer distances, up stairs or on uneven walking surfaces. Activity Level 4 - A moderate physical activity tour with longer days. Some of the touring days (though not all) may be longer, with a few activities occurring later in the evening. Participants must be physically fit to fully experience this tour. This itinerary has more strenuous activities such as extensive walking tours, a few bumpy roads, high altitudes, early morning departures, late night activities, or extreme temperatures. Not every day will be strenuous - please read the itinerary carefully and speak with a Keiro Northwest advisor if you have any concerns about the physical ability required to undertake this tour. What to Expect You can expect to do a fair amount of walking over cobble-stone streets (which will require your attention and patience) while touring Quebec City and Halifax. Touring the countryside (which is the majority of the time on this tour) will consist of comfortable motor coach travel with occasional stops for rest-rooms and photos. Except for the main cities, this is a very leisurely tour. Guests must be able to carry their own baggage (and carry-ons) through airports on their own. While walkers and wheelchairs may be brought onto this tour, guests who require either must be accompanied by a relative or care-taker at all times. If you require a walker or a wheel chair, you will not be able to do every single activity on this tour as some are only accessible to persons who can walk well without assistance.
