Our 2017 tour revisits all of the same highlights in a more relaxed manner, and stays at some new hotels while visiting sites covering American Indian history, three music Meccas (New Orleans, Memphis and Nashville), historic slavery and Civil War sites and the scenic splendours of Yellowstone and the Grand Teton National Parks. Our journey begins with three days in San Francisco before flying to Albuquerque in New Mexico from where we begin a 7 day journey through the native American Indian lands of New Mexico and Colorado, including Chaco page 2 Canyon, historic Durango, where we take a ride on the famous narrow gauge railroad to the old mining town of Silverton, Mesa Verde National Park and the ancient pueblo near the picturesque town of Taos with it s bridge over the Rio Grande. In Santa Fe we visit the Wheelwright Museum and Santa Clara Reservation to see a native Indian dance show and pottery making techniques. From New Orleans we embark on the Queen of the Mississippi for an 8-day cruise to Baton Rouge, St Francisville, Cat Island National Wildlife Refuge, the Civil War battlefields at Vicksburg and the music capital of Memphis where we visit Elvis Presley's home Graceland. We drive to the country music capital Nashville then fly to Wyoming to explore the scenic beauty of Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks.

Mississippi Horizons After a morning tour of Albuquerque, visiting the old town and the Mexican section, we begin a fascinating road journey through the states of New Mexico and Colorado. The next morning we drive to Chaco Canyon National Monument, the heart of the Anazazi Indian homes dating back to the 12th century. We take a guided tour of the majestic ruins of a people who, without knowledge of the wheel, built hundreds of kilometres of straight-as-an-arrow roads and whose history and migration are clouded in mystery. Cable car, San Francisco Our journey begins with a United Airlines flight from Sydney to San Francisco, CALIFORNIA, crossing the International Date Line and gaining a day inflight. On arrival we transfer to The Fairmont Hotel for three nights. Afternoon at leisure. On our full day tour we explore some of San Francisco's many highlights including the Golden Gate Bridge, a cable car ride to Fisherman s Wharf and Chinatown. The next day we visit the California Wine Country. In the Napa Valley we take a wine-tasting luncheon at Domaine Chandon winery which is owned by the French champagne company, Moet & Chandon. The nearby Sonoma Valley, known as the Valley of the Moon, is steeped in wine, literary and political history, with its historic haciendas and culinary shops. The region is also renowned for the production of Camembert and Brie, as well as many distinguished local cheeses. On our return we take a late afternoon cruise across San Francisco Bay back to our hotel. Pueblo, Acoma 'sky city', New Mexico First stop is the Sky City of Acoma, a Native American pueblo (village) built on top of a 112m sandstone mesa. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in the United States. We tour the village and meet the local Indians before continuing to Gallup for overnight stay at at the boutiquestyle, moderate Comfort Suites Hotel. We continue driving across the border into COLORADO arriving at the historic town of Durango, founded in 1879 by the Denver & Rio Grande Railway. We stay for two nights at the Strater Hotel, its grand Victorian bedrooms filled with authentic walnut antiques and period wallpapers. From Durango we take a ride on the famous narrow Gauge Railroad to the old mining town of Silverton, travelling in one of the exclusive Presidential Class carriages with private outdoor viewing platform. Completed in 1892 to haul silver and gold Napa Valley wine region, San Francisco We take the morning flight to Albuquerque, capital of NEW MEXICO, where we take an excursion by the world s longest aerial tramway to Sandia Peak for a Western Steak Dinner overlooking the mountains and twinkling lights of the city. We stay overnight at Albuquerque Old Town Hotel. page 3 Anazazi Indian dwellings, Chaco Canyon National Monument

Mississippi Horizons stay for two nights at the exclusive Relais & Chateau Inn of the Five Graces - a boutique hotel set in delightful stone-and-adobe buildings originally dating from the 1600s. In Santa Fe we visit the Wheelwright Museum to learn about Indian culture and art in jewellery and pottery. We continue to Santa Clara Reservation where the local Indians will demonstrate their dancing and pottery-making techniques, before joining us in a Taco lunch. Durango to Silverton Railway ore from mines of the San Juan Mountains, the railway was also used by passengers - who considered the views to be equally as precious as the cargo. From Silverton we return to Durango by road, crossing three 3,000-metre-high mountain passes, visiting en route the Mesa Verde National Park with its ancient Anazazi Indian cave dwellings. We drive back into NEW MEXICO to visit the picturesque town of Taos, once home to the frontiersman Kit Carson and the novelist DH Lawrence. We visit the ancient Taos pueblo, which has been continuously inhabited for 1,000 years, and see the bridge spanning the 200-metre-deep gorge of the Rio Grande. In the afternoon we continue driving to the city of Santa Fe, with its quaint adobe buildings and distinctive Spanish architecture. We Anazazi Indian cliff dwellings, Mesa Verde National Park page 4 We fly to to New Orleans, LOUISIANA, where we stay for three nights at the centrally located Omni Royal Crescent Hotel. Our full day sightseeing tour of New Orleans includes a walk through the French Quarter and Garden district with a carriage ride and Santa Clara Indian Reservation visits to the Louisiana State Museum, Blaine Kern's Mardi Gras World and some of the famous historical houses. We take an excursion to the Bayou swamplands for a boat ride to view the abundant wildlife. The swamp creatures recognise the boats as part of their normal environment and it is not unusual for jumping alligators to come within a few metres of the boat. We then visit and have lunch at Nottoway antebellum plantation, situated on the banks of the river, to visit the beautiful Italianate and Greek Revival-style home with its 64 rooms and 200 windows.

Mississippi Horizons We continue cruising past several Wildlife Refuges, including the Cat Island National Wildlife Refuge, which was established in 2000 to conserve, restore, and manage native forested wetland habitats for migratory birds, aquatic resources, and endangered and threatened plants and animals. We arrive at Natchez, in the State of MISSISSIPPI The city of Vicksburg served as a pivotal turning point during the American Civil War. We drive through the National Military Park which commemorates the campaign, siege and defense of Vicksburg. Our Historian guide and park ranger shows us the battlefields, the U.S.S. Cairo gunboat, and the most significant historic places. Queen of the Mississippi Celebrating its 300th year, Natchez is a city full of history and Southern hospitality. Our stay in Natchez includes visits to its gardens, historic homes, and museums and an optional concert in the music room of the JN Stone House. We embark on the Queen of the Mississippi stern-wheeler and begin cruising up the Mississippi towards Oak Alley Plantation for a visit of this "Grande Dame of the Great River Road". The 400-metre canopy of giant live oak trees, believed to be nearly 300 years old, forms an impressive avenue leading to the classic Greek-revival style antebellum home. Oak Alley Plantation, Louisiana We cruise towards Baton Rouge, capital of the state of Louisiana. Known as the Red Stick, Baton Rouge is home to the legendary Louisiana Cajun cuisine and a booming film and television industry, Here we see the World War II destroyed USS Kidd, known as the "Pirate of the Pacific" - a memorial which honours the men and women of America s armed forces. Our cruise brings us to the picturesque city of St Francisville perched on a bluff on the eastern bank of the river, with over 140 buildings which have been listed in the National Register of Historic Places and in The 200 Most Beautiful Small Towns in America. We take a stroll through its historic center with two centuries of architecture and lifestyles on display, and visit restored antebellum mansions including Rosedown. Antebbelum home, Natchez, Mississippi From Natchez we continue cruising with Louisiana on our port (left) bank and Mississippi on our starboard (right). We pass Yucatan Lake on our way to Vicksburg, where Coca Cola was first bottled in 1894. Illinois Monument, Vicksburg National Military Park The Biedenharn Coca-Cola Museum features the history of one of the world s best-known beverages, along with equipment of the type that Joseph Biedenharn used to first bottle Coke together with a wide variety of original advertising and memorabilia exhibits. We spend the day cruising upstream towards our ultimate destination, the musical city of Memphis, TENNESSEE. With its music museums, art galleries, river boats, voodoo shops, fortune tellers and palm readers, Memphis is a melting pot of cultural and historical attractions. page 5

Mississippi Horizons Probably the major attraction is Graceland Mansion, which was the home of rock star Elvis Presley from 1957 until his death on August 16, 1977. The house is a Colonial Revival built in 1939 on land that was once part of a Civil War farm. Master bedroom, Graceland, Memphis Other attractions include legendary Beale Street, the Home of the Blues, with its music clubs, shops and restaurants, the W.C. Handy House Museum, Shelby Farms, the largest urban park in the country, and the "twisted" Ornamental Metal Museum. After disembarking we stay overnight at the historic Peabody Hotel where we take the hotel tour and watch the 80-year old tradition of the Peabody Ducks marching through the lobby to the central fountain. From Memphis we drive to Dover, the site of another great Civil War battle, where General Ulysses Grant's second great victory was achieved at Fort Donelson. We continue to Clarksville, home of the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center, dating back to 1898 and originally designed for use as a Federal Post Office and Customs House. We arrive in Nashville, the home of American Country Music, for a three night stay at the Union Station Hotel - a 100-year-old railway station transformed into a historic hotel. During our two full days in Nashville we visit some of the city's major sights including the Parthenon, Music Row, the State Capitol, Ryman Auditorium and the Country Music Hall of Fame, and there will be an opportunity to attend an evening show at the Grand Ole Oprey. Ryman Auditorium, Nashville From Nashville we fly to Jackson, WYOMING, located in the Jackson Hole valley of Teton County. On arrival we drive to Yellowstone National Park and stay two nights at the Lake Yellowstone Hotel. page 6 Morning Glory pool, Yellowstone National Park Our hotel is located inside Yellowstone, the world's first National Park, established in 1872. Yellowstone is home to a large variety of wildlife including grizzly bears, wolves, bison, and elk. Preserved within the park is the famous Old Faithful geyser which erupts every 35 to 120 minutes for 1½ to 5 minutes. Its maximum height ranges from 27 to 56 metres. We also visit the Yellowstone Grand Canyon and several other geysers and hot springs within the National Park From Yellowstone we take an excursion into the Grand Teton National Park, a scenic area of mountain peaks, alpine lakes and sagebush flats filled with moose, elk, trumpeter swans and other wildlife. We continue to Jackson for our final night at the centrally located Wort Hotel. In the evening we experience an authentic western adventure, taking a ride on covered wagons to the Bar T5 Cookout for a barbecue accompanied by western songs. On our final morning we visit the National Museum of Wildlife Art and the Jackson Hole Historical Museum, before transferring to the airport for our flight via Denver to Los Angeles and connecting United Airlines flight back to Sydney, crossing the International Dateline and losing a day enroute.
